Here are some pics of my Tamiya P-47D razorback. It is basically out of the box except for the decals which are Aeromaster and the wheels which are True details resin. I added a few extras such as brake lines. It is painted with Gunze and Tamiya acrylics.
This is the first time I’ve tryed weathering a model with pastels, and I’m quite happy with how it turned out. Each different panel got faded differently to make the OD over NG scheme a bit more interesing.
Unfortunately I lost one of the gear doors to the carpet monster (or maybe the vacuum monster). And technically, seeing as though this aircraft was actually a P-47C it shouldn’t really have the drop tank but I think it looks better with it on so I don’t care.

Daniel, That looks very good. Nice work on the paint chipping, canopy looks good and the mask job looks like it went very well. Panel line and panel shading is excellent. Can’t wait to see how you do on the Beaufighter.
Excellent build and very good work on the paint chiping and finish on your subject, I have this kit but have not opened the box as yet. I look forward to seeing the Beaufighter also when you complete it.
Yet another spectacular Tamiya razorback. There is no more doubt, I MUST have one. I recently did a Hasegawa -25 bubbletop OOB except for harness and colorful Aeromaster markings and paint job. It’s actually a few months postwar, the example I depicted. What makes this Tamiya kit so popular, and how much does it cost?
On the subject, can anyone illuminate me on the P-47B version? I seem to remember it looks like a razorback D. Did any reach squadron service, or were they used in training Jug pilots? Can it be built from a razorback D? Just like to do builds featuring lesser known versions of common a/c subjects. Again, another bullseye for you, Ping.

Sweet T-Bolt!! The pastels on the OD look awesome, that’s a great affect. What scale is this kit? I figured the 1/48 but I know they did just release the same in a 1/72. As far as the popularity of the Tamiya kit… I just got the 72nd scale “Razorback” and it’s the little things that stand out to me. For instance I thought the pylons were the most realistic I’ve seen yet… not just slabs of plastic with locator pins… and that’s in 72nd scale.
The Tamiya kit from what I have been told, has the best detail and fit of any 1/48 scale kit on the market. Great Models has them for $32.80 and they retail for $41.
pingtang, very sweet looking jug friend!!![tup][tup][tup] i’m not a huge fan of the jug, but you did a very nice job on the weathering and decaling!! later.
The B-model never left the states. It was used operationally by the 56th Fighter group in the US but the C-model is what they initially flew in combat after the outfit transferred to England.
newtothegame - The fading was done with pastels. I used pale yellows, greens and browns and black for the black stains from the guns.
Sharkskin - What makes this kit so popular is that ity is the best out there of a P-47. The fit of parts is great (I didn’t need any filler anywhere, just a quick rub with some sandpaper.). And the detail is very nice, especially in the cockpit.
