Very nice indeed. How did you do the tracks?

A beautiful build! I like the muted stars and the correct British camo netting–where’d ya get that net?

Thanks for the comments. I did the tracks with four applications of diluted Humbrol Flat Black and a wide brush. This was put on over top of the overall primer paint coat I applied to the entire model once construction was completed. I painted the tracks in place to make it easier and to blend everything together when weathering.

Thanks for the comments. The muted star was a mistake that turned out in my favour. I primed the entire build with Tamiya Deck Tan on every surface tracks to turret. I then made a mask circle and star from green painters masking tape. I intended to paint the star in white and re-apply the mask. But I got ahead of myself and started on the khaki drab and weathering etc. etc. so when I removed the mask I realized my error and blended it in with a wash of burnt umber oil paint and a filter application of green yellow.

The camouflage net was made from surgical gauze dyed black first with fabric dye. The I cut pieces from the main piece and soaked them in 50/50 water and white glue and applied them to the hull and turret. Once the base pieces were dry I cut the strip camouflage from paper coffee filter with the help of a cross-cut paper shredder. I soaked each bit in the 50/50 water/glue mix and layed them onto the netting with tweezers. I then added smaller pieces of gauze over top and pulled the ends of strips through to give the “layered” look of a real cam net.

That’s about it. Once everything was dry I went in and painted the various strips with browns, greens and tans. Then a little drybrush on the netting to blend it all together.

[banghead] Such tiny 'lil pictures.

From what I can see…[tup]…it looks super!

BRILLIANT!![8D][yeah]

Not rocket science. It just came to me one day while shredding some paper that it produces proper size strips. Just changed the product used because the coffee filter absorbs paint and retains its “texture” of burlap look. So feel free to use that one, well until Verlinden or someone else mass produces the idea…[;)]

Thanks for the comment. Sorry about the photo sizes that’s what photobucket puts up when you copy the img code so I don’t know how to make them larger. I think it turned out great for my first piece of armour and my fifth model project.

It goes back to when you first take the pictures. Your camera should give you an option as to what size picture you want. Bigger picture means more of your memory card is taken up. When you post it on Photobucket it will automatically use the size you selected unless it is more than the maximum allowed… in which case they will resize it to their max.

I think I have this right, in any case…that’s what I do.

Steve

Does anyone else put the “URL Code” into the box instead of the “image code”?? I’ve been putting the “URL” code in and never have an issue with my posts…anyone???

Not I

Steve

Looks great! Thanks for sharing the netting technique, I’ll probably use it on the Tasca firefly I’m working on.

About the pictures, try right clicking on the image and selecting “copy image location”, then paste that into your message. Many Photobucket images have a numerical ending like ?18593023 that make them smaller (I don’t know how though) Be sure that your picture URL has, for example “firefly_05.jpg” as the ending with no numbers after it.

Also, be sure to set the ‘image size’ option on the Photobucket uploads as large as it will go - you might have it set to 160x120, so it automatically gets resized.

You’re welcome to use it. Post some pics when you’re done.

Greg, oustanding Firefly. Love the netting and the weathering. One to be proud of.

Wow. Fabulous build. I’m also echoing everyone’s love for the net technique - looks spectacular.

Nice build!

I still think you should do a brief write up of the star “mistake” and submit it, either here or one of the other online sites. It’s a great technique for achieiving that later war look much of the US equipment had.

Thanks again for posting.
