finished M8 HMC *lots of pics*

Hey guys, finally got this one painted and weathered this is the old Tamiya kit with eduard PE and AFV tracks i quite enjoyed working on this one and i know it has a few flaws but im very happy with the way it came out and it looks great on the shelf [:)]

Be-YOO-ti-ful, as YOO-zhoo-al, Ron! [(-D]

Seriously–a nice build on a kit that could have been a less-than-spectacular build!

Just goes to show–“It ain’t the kit; its the MODELER”!!!

So true! [#toast]

Hey biffa, nice looking “silk purse” you got there[bow]

Sooo… your next build start’s later tonight [swg]

If so it’ll be done by tomaro. lol

GGRREEAAT work there biffa I love the wathering!

hiya Ron[:)]—

what cracks me up is when you say ’ finally got this one painted and weathered’—I think maybe you break some of Einsteins fundimental rules of the ‘time speed continuem’ —I maybe think about how to do a part while you do a whole build— phenominal —what really grabs my attention on this one is the back end with the tools and all-- really great work–I wish it had ‘clear’ headlight lenses, but what can you do?-I always love viewing your work-yer pal, tread[8D]—[tup][tup]

Ron

Very nice…I like the fuel can on the front…I see you somewhat went around the inside by using a canvas cover. Works well.

You are proof that a good modeler can teach an old kit new tricks!!!

Nicely done…now what do you have almost finished as your next build (The man who builds at warp speed [:O])

Rounds Complete!!

Hey Biffa sweet build![tup]

Though I do have a question, what did you do to get the tracks as weathered as you did??In other words what did you do?[?]

I’m asking because I still have major problems on getting tracks to look weathered and realistic.

Great work, Ron. My favorite parts: the rear end, tracks and that “Ma Deuce” 50 cal…nice tarp work as well…model looks “heavy”, which to me is one of the most difficult things to pull off with styrene…SWEET…

Don’t you ever build anything that looks bad? The image “http://img126.exs.cx/img126/997/36_1_11.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. What a great job you’ve done here. It’s very real lookin’ to me. One extra thing you could do is put some shine on the rear idler and roadwheel rims where it rubs against the tracks.

Love it.

Absolutely beautiful! The more you post the more I think to myself “well now the bar is higher”

One nitpick if I may, don’t know tanks, haven’t built one in 30+ years, however I do know about “Ma Deuce”, intimately, if you get my drift [;)].

Rounds fed from the left into the reciever. The ammo belts were comprised of metal interlocking links, holding the rounds. Spent cases were ejected down from the receiver, links were ejected to the right. I’m rambling but my point is there would be no ammo belt hanging down from the right side of the receiver. An M2 .50 cal. is not designed to function that way.

I love your stuff and when you and several others post I just get more enthusiastic about my own slow build.

Wayne

Nicely done Ron! [tup]

Agentg…nice catch…sometimesyou miss things but true, the M2…for a matter of fact almost all US belt feed machine guns are left feed right eject.

Sorry Ron…If you can’t get it in on the left…cut the casings up…cut the heads off and sprinkle the brass around the turret. One belt for a M2 can make a mess and a lot of brass in the turret.

Rounds Complete!!

So the tank factory is up and running. Once again, I tio agree that its the modeler who makes the build. You have an ability to take a plain kit and with your skills at painting and weathering make it stand out. [bow] I love the handles on your tools. The affect is awsome, how did you get the wood look?

Agree, although the ammo can is on the correct side so this is an “easy-breezy” fix…just a matter of snipping the belt off…

Well done as always.[tup]

You are really cranking them out. Sorry, I meant to BEAUTIFULLY cranking them out.

Thanks guys im pleased you like this one i know i do [

Doog, much appreciated man and another huge congrads on you getting published yet again i missed the build but i am looking forward to seeing it in print, you and Bill must have shares in this mag by now heh [#toast] heres hoping for a front page.

Hi Guy, the next one is nearing completion (buildwise not painted heh) i began building it when painting started on this one it is the Alan PZ II J with eduard upgrade i will get a thread started later but was working on the finishing touches of this one, thanks for the comments.

Treadster my man great to see you bro, appreciate the words tread, the pics didnt pic it up well but i drilled out the head lights and used some 2part epoxy on em and there not great but they dont look too bad i have a better pic of them below, thanks again dood and i cant wait to see some progress shots from you i know its gonna be killer man.

Steve’o thanks for the words and for spotting i never cleaned up the right side idler wheel the left one was ok just the lights dont pic up on it too well but anyway i fixed the rightside one and all is well mucho thanks man glad you like.

Hi Wayne, you know whats funny is i absolutly knew that the ammo belt was wrong lol but when i was building it i wanted to see what the pe ammo looked like so i put it together like that (it was just slid in) for an experiment, painted it etc and to be honest wasnt too impressed with the look anyway but after that never gave it a second thought [:I] anyway thanks for pointing that out and it has been fixed/removed, i have these moments often it must be my age [:)]

Hi Moose, for the handles i do a base coat of a stone/offwhite colour then using a combo of yellow ochre, vandyke brown and burnt sienna oil paints mixed together until i find a shade i like gently streak it down the handles keep working it until it looks right, its very simple try it, i much appreciate the comments.

Mikael, for the tracks i basecoated them in brown any will do then they got a dry brush with steel followed by several oil washes along with the rest of the tank and as a final touch pigments were scrubbed into them and them the loose was hard brushed off, a final touchup of steel was required in places [:)] hope that helps if not i may have some pics of another somewhere.

Hi Redleg, i have appreciated your input on this one and still intend to add more turret stowage i just dont have anything i like on hand but am on the lookout im glad you like the result it is a great little kit to build just for fun and i really did enjoy it, thanks man.

Stickman, Manny, Bill, Matt, Marc, guys i really do thank you all for the remarks and im glad you all liked it.

a better view of the headlight lenses, still not perfect but they dont look bad to the eye

.50 as it should be heh

couple of above shots

Right Manstein.

Since the configuration is disintegrating links just like the M-60, there would be no The image “http://www.lefouilleur.com/forum/images/smiles/Joker_PDT_35.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.hangover. …(couldn’t resist)
