Finished Dauntless and Mototug

Hey guys, here is my most recent completed build. It’s a 1/48 Revell Dauntless dive bomber. The kit was pretty simple and I thought the detail was ok for a 48 year old kit. The decals were a little thick and took a while to settle down. I might find an Accurate Miniatures Dauntless just to see what I missed out on.

I also built a tamiya mototug that had been sitting around for a while. It’s a pretty neat little vehicle. I decided to add some battle damage as if it sat out on the deck of a carrier during an attack.

Really nice build on both! I love the subdued camo and reasinable weathering! Rear gunner is great also!

The Moto is a great addition![tup]

Nice! I am just finishing up on the Accurate Miniatures kit tonight and had fun with it. I did it as an A-24 Banshee though.

I like the tug, looks great.

Let me know how that kit comes together. There really isn’t much difference between the A-24 and SBD-3. I bet yours will turn out better than mine.

Very nice work! You really did a nice job turning that old veteran into a stunning model. Thanks for sharing! [tup]

Nice work on the elderly kit.

Regards, Rick

nice job on that old kit!

Nice!

two little things…

…the U.S. insignia is out of round. Is that intentional? (The Navy did do overpainting on stuff from time to time)

And for a little extra realism, chipped paint detail should avoid being ‘evenly spaced’ on the airplane’s surface. I do 'bunched up concentrations of ‘wear-off’ where crewman and tools did most of their work…

Still, yours is dang convincing. Luv the cart too…

Thanks for the comments. On this plane the stars were enlarged by hand (thats how the decals were). Apparently during the battle of Guadalcanal the crews crudely made the stars larger after coming from the Atlantic. Next time I’ll try to make the chips look a little better.

I think that they look good! I like the paint job and weathering on both of them! Keep up the great work.

great job!!! are the dive brakes scratchbuilt or photoetched metal?

All I did to the dive brakes was drill them out. It took a while but I think the results are worth it.

Nice. Proof positive that with alittle effort you can take a kit that is AARP eligble and turn into a great model.
