Hi all,
I finally finished my Afrika Korps Me-262 and thought I’d post some pics.
I really had fun doing this one. The camo on the body is all freehand airbrush.
And the skeleton hand holding the lightning bolt is a homemade decal.
The skeleton hand is an actual squadron marking from early WWII 1939 Germany. I added the lightning bolt to go along with the jet moving like lightning as compared to other propeller aircraft of the time.
I call it the ‘Blitztotenhand’ (lightning hand of death) squadron operational in North Africa mid to late 1940. I know, I know, it never existed, never really happened [:)] This is just a little fun twist on history [;)]
The last picture shows the scratch built sand filters installed on Me-262s operating in Africa.
Good modeling,

Excellent job on the what if scheme, Wayne, and your homemade decal adds a nice finishing touch.
Nice build of a “What If” Swallow. Looks like you had some fun with it.
Regards, Rick

Fade to Black…
simply awesome…thanks for sharing.
Nice build…And a great job on the camo. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks everyone. The comments are very much appreciated.
You are right RIck, I really did have a lot of fun with this one. This project was a first for me in a few ways.
It was my first attempt at scratch building anything. The sand filters are super simple in scratch building terms but it was a great entry level project for me. It was my first attempt at homemade decals which was really fun to design and print it out for myself. And it was also my first attempt at freehand airbrushing. I am proud of myself for how the scheme came out on the 262. [^]
Thanks again everyone and good modeling,

That’s cool! Kinda makes me think of the killer bees!
dragonfly
Great looking ‘what if’ build Wayne, thanks for posting.
Darren
what colors did you use? excellent build. looks great in those colors.
Nice work on the Swallow. If Rommel would have had some of those in his desert air force, the Allies would have been in real trouble with Spits and P-40s.

Beautiful! I wish I’d thought of that!
I did the same with a Do-335, stealing sand filters from Bf-109s:
