FINISHED!!! AC-130H pics

I finally finished this baby and I have to say that for a kit the started off great, it snowballed at the end. You would not believe the problems I had trying to finish this thing. Broken landing gears, Broken propellers, general modeling screwups, SERIOUS problems with the decals…
I tried to just apply Future to the areas I was going to apply the decals and my intent was to seal them again with Future then with a dull coat to bring it back to match the model… nope that didnt work. It just ended up creating patchy areas where I applied the decals. Which would make for an intresting weathering idea but it was oh so obvious that it was just around the decals. Plus the serious fogging that happened after appling the decals…[V]
ugg… In the end it came out decent I guess. A definet learning experience that I can improve on in. I may even come back and fix this one if I can find some better decals. Who knows… Any who, here are the pics

hope you guys enjoy.

Looks like that project turned out pretty good. What’s next?

A super Specter!

I’ve always thought the idea of just glossing the area you’re going to decal was a bit dodgy, for that very reason! You’ll never get an even finish after that.
I’d recommend Futuring the whole thing and trying to flatten it all over again.

The Spectre does look good, though! Which kit is it?

It looks really cool. Gives me inspiration to find time to finish mine.

“Spectre Song”

Fly high you mighty Spectre,
you ship of blazing fools.
Deal death around the table,
and never play by rules.

Lift up your wings at suns last ray,
and silent like the night.
Fly East to where your target lies,
and start your deadly fight.

Your foes will not suspect you’re near,
until they feel your sting.
Spit forth a flame that points at death,
and make your bullets sing.

Though flak explodes around you,
stay on your circled path.
Bathe the bad in bloody steel,
and make them feel your wrath.

When all is quiet now down below,
and flames reach for the sky.
Speed home you battle-weary ship,
for soon the dark will fly.

Speed home you mighty Spectre,
touch down at sun’s first ray.
You’ve flown to hell for battle,
but shun the light of day.

Rest now you awesome Spectre,
lick all your battle wounds.
And fill your side with deadly store,
for night is coming soon.

Thanks for paying tribute to a great aircraft, Awood23!
Take care,
Frank

Big and beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

looks pretty darned cool from my house atwood!! keep up the good work friend. later.

It looks great, the chopter too, thanks for the pics.

Looks good. I agree with above on doing the entire model in Future before decaling to avoid the problem you encountered.

Regards, Rick

Man that is a big ole badass plane. Thanks for posting, she looks great.

Excellent poem Frank!

Nice Herc you got there! Judging by the pictures, those patches aren’t too bad. Would I be correct in assuming it’s 1/72 scale?

wow so many excellent builds. very impressive work.

Thanks guys for the kind words. Old Hooker that song is awsome. Any problem with me using it is part of a display for this build?

The kit is AMT/Ertl’s 1/72 AC-130H and for me it was a real challange. I think I may have bit of more than I can chew but its an important plane for the theme I have going. The only other kit I know of is AIRFIX’s and I actualy think this one is better :frowning: I know Italeri has the 1/48 bird but thats rediculously huge for me Any one wanting to build this kit should lemme know so I can tell you of some obvious and simple fixes with this kit that include wrong instructions.

Next on my plate, Im gonna take a brake from my love of planes and take part in this backwards build with a 1/35 Acadamy M2 Bradley IFV. But dont worry, the Dark Side may have some inspiration but that ends once you become a soldier and realize that 99% of our vehicles are rachety clanky heat traps that leak water like a collander/strainer. The Army makes vehicles that work. They dont care to much about creature comforts… god why didnt I join the AirForce??? [:D]

Thanks again guys.

(I’m kinda just kiddin about joining the AF. Back outta high school It seemed like the right thing to do. But I Love my job and couldnt see myself doing anything else. Aircraft will always be my dreams and passion but the Darkside has my body and soul. Who knows maybe I’ll quit thinking about it and one day take the AFAST test and become an Army Aviator. Then I could live the dream and not betray the Darkside right?)

That is one sweet lookin’ 130, Awood23. I don’t even notice the decal problems you’re taling about. As I’ve said before, we are all our own worst critics. That thing looks awsome.

Very nice! Someday Ill get around starting my C-130…

Thats a very big model. You did a great job. I’ve seen one of those things so I know just how big they are.

keep up the good work.

Great job Awood23.Sure looks good.

Great job on the Spectre. I spent the last 5 years of a 21 year Air Force career providing Intel support to ARRS and Spec Ops. I managed to get in several flights on Spec Ops birds including the AC-130 during training flights out of Hurlburt Field, Florida. The noise inside that beast is beyond description, even with earplugs and Mickey Mouse muffs.[alien]

Great model, mine’s in the pile for future build
