well after many many hours of work and lots of reading on here i just decided my first model was DONE! time to move on to something else. i’m quite pleased with how it turned out. when i started it in september if someone would have told me i could build something like this i would have told them they where full of s**t. anyway pictures speak louder than words so here they are.
i learned so much building this , a big thank you to everyone here , without the awesome amount of information and tricks on this board there would have been no way i could have done it. also a big thanks to FSM magazine for making these boards available to us to share all this knowedge.
Very nice job PantherLehr, I like your use of foliage. You did a nice job on the mud on the lower half also. I’d say a great first build. My only critique is that the figures look a little glossy on my screen. They might be fine, so I apologize if they are.
“It is well that war is so terrible, lest we grow too fond of it.”-R.E.Lee
they are a little glossy but the flash on the camera made it look a lot worst than they realy are. i’ll have to remeber to put a lot more flatcoat on them on my next project.
Hey that’s a good one Max. The build, the camo, the foliage, the mud…they’re great. I guess we have the same problem with the shine on the figures. Not that they are really shiny in reality but sometimes when the lighting and the flash effects come in they causes those unwanted shine. Anyway, nothing that a good touch up with a dull coat couldn’t handle. Good job. And it is your first model you say?
Nice first job, glad to see you enjoyed it so much. Another victim succumbs the Darkside (not that that is a bad thing[:p]) May I make a couple of small suggestions that I hope you can use?
If you are using the kit’s vinyl tracks, and you can’t hide the join behind side skirts or something, try and put the join on the bottom under a road wheel. This way it is not so noticable, and if later you put it on a dio base then pressing the vehicle into the groundwork will also help hide the join.
If you want to do more photo’s, try and avoid using the camera’s flash. If the camera is close to the model then the flash is also close. If the light source is close you will end up with the highlighted shine. Try using a halogen lamp at a longer distance or daylight if you do not have a better light source inside, just watch shadows, etc. The other reason is that the flash can cause shadows that you don’t want, or can wash out the detail you are trying to capture.
thanks for the comments guys , small things that i never realy noticed or payed attention to. thanks for the picture tips , i’ll have to try the halogen lights , i tired without flash but the weathering wasn’t visible at all. i was half expecting having lighting problems and wanted to take pictures in daylight but with our short days here at this time of the year i didn’t get a chance to do that. I have to admit, I’m impressed. You did a good job for a first model. I especially am impressed with the finish on the halftrack. I don’t even notice the decals and that’s hard to hide sometimes. Everything else I would comment on has already been said. Good job,
I guess I neglected giving you compliments on in my last post, I meant to really! It looks good pantherlehr. I like the weathering on it. I am in the process of redoing mine and giving it a better paint job.
