Well, after plenty of hard work, she’s finished! This is the ExtraTech M10 TD kit, built pretty much out of the box, except for some stowage I made from tissue. The .50 cal mg is from ExtraTech’s resin .50 cal mg set. The kit came together pretty well, with only some minor or tricky fit problems here or there. Lots of detail and plenty of small pieces (for an example, all the bolts on the armor are seperate pieces!). The figures were 1/76 scale Milicast figures, all with slight modifications. The only problem I had with them was that I couldn’t fit 3 figures in the turret! So what I do? Tank commander needs to get a better view point, and presto chango, problem solved. The colors were all Model Masters, the yellowish camo was mixed. The figures and stowage were painted with Andrea paints. It was built to depict an American M10 Tank Destroyer, US 1st Arrmored Division, 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion, Anzio, Italy, 1944.
Pics are a little dark and fuzzy, and we cant blow them up but from what we can see it looks really nice. I wish we had good pictires to appreciate a fine build in braillescale!
tangergeoff- yep, i got those just in case i need them, haven’t used 'em yet [;)]
trowlfazz- yes, I have only begun to ruin my young eyes with this hobby
I-beam- The fit problems were far and few between. It was kinda difficult to put on the VVSS units, it’s just the way they have it, but it’s not too bad of a problem, just need to be a little careful. On the interior, you don’t see it at all (at least w/ the figures there) but i had to sand down the radio drastically in order to get the rest of the hull on. Again, if you aren’t going to be showing the inside (like me) then this is no big deal at all. The bolts were just really small… hard to handle and put on correctly. The final big problem (which is the biggest) is that there was a noticable gap in the front where the top of the hull met the bottom. I don’t know if this was b/c of the radio or not, but either way it was there. It could be filled w/ putty fairly easily I would imagine, although you need to be careful b/c there is some detail on the top of the hull where the two halves meet. My final complaint, which can easily be avoided, is the plastic gun barrel. It had 2 huge lines down the middle of it. I guess the mold was off or something. But you can avoid this if you get the kit that is the “Extrapack” b/c it includes a metal gun barrel and other goodies, like gear stowage and a little extra PE. I don’t want to make it sound like this kit sucked, b/c it didn’t. This was an extraordinary kit, and besides the plastic barrel, there was no flash or any other problems with the plastic at all. I really enjoyed putting it together, and would, despite its somewhat high cost, recomend it to anyone interested in it.
