I really like seeing old-tech kits made into good models. Seroius modeling skills…kudos, Redleg.

Here was a photo that I was using from 1/81. Note the bumper number
Thanks for the info. There are not many pictures since the Pershing was classified. I have about 8 to 10 but most from a distance.
Since the 70s saw many changes in US vehicle painting there are many mixes. I will stay with OD and white markings. The kit decals have white decals sor the missile. If they are not going to work out I can go with OD and black lettering as I also have pictures in that style. I don’t have any good shots of the unit in camo and that would be a [censored] to recreate.
If you have any good shots let me know. I have not commited to OD but will start as the base color no matter.
Have to work on a bunch of scratch details next before I get to full finishing.

As always it is a pleasure to have your comments and yes…I’ll be in Danbury in Sept. The Pershing will hopefully also be there. As it gets closer we will make plans for meeting up.

Thanks for looking in and your comments. This kit is a challange. I thank many of the people on this site who have and continue to help me. My skills may not be the best but I am going to give it one hell of a try.
Karl
Thanks for tuning in and your moral support. I know the Pershing is not your cup of tea but your comments are always welcome
Sorry I have not been back to everyone sooner. I’m on a buisness trip. 3 cities in 4 days. I’m headed home tomorrow one tired puppy.

This is the best ‘bumper number’ pic from my personal collection: (D-1/81)
Several more scattered here:
http://www.usarmygermany.com/units/FieldArtillery/USAREUR_56th%20FA%20Bde.htm of which you’re aware of.
I was not aware that there were camo versions later on after I left in '74. I have not seen any photos of those.

Hey, who’s this “WE” you keep speaking of? YOu got a silent partner working there with ya or what?! [swg][(-D]
Hey man, its looking fine! I’m surprised at the detail you’re squeezing out of it with the lack of research material available!
now this is a cool lookng project i cant waite to see this one finished.
Looks great Red! Thanks again for the ‘flashbacks’! [:D]
Karl
I wish I had a silent partner but after a day of spring chores outside, fixing the wifes computer and writing this update I was delerious…[zzz]. That’s what I get for majoring in engineering and not taking any english courses…then again I grew up in NYC and at least I don’t use words like “fourgetabutit”.
As for the detail, I have 9 photos at different times and nicely from different angles. A couple are good enough to zoom and see some of the items. Considering how many you can find of a Sherman or Panther, 9 is almost 0. But I am making the best of it.
I will edit my we to I…Thanks
Mini
Glad to see I’m bring back memories. For the old soldiers, that’s what this hobby is about.

Thanks…me too, sometimes the details go on and you can’t wait to finish…I’m getting there…I have to be like a vulture!!

heya Mike [:)]-- looks like you’re making some nice progress. I like the way we find uses for left over P.E.!![tup]— suddenly something becomes a whole different something-- I am doing the same with my Shermie— making stuff from left over p.e. sprues and such. Keep the posts comming!!----tread[8D]

WOw, Mike, you’re totally “Swayzey-ing” this kit! LOL!
Looking good, man!
Moose - Thanks for your comments.
Doog - Thanks also.
After this one I need a small, simple build like a jeep.
Thanks again and thanks for looking!

She’s looking great so far. Can’t wait to see her done.
Doing great there Red! Seams, sinks, pin marks and picking up on some great detailing! Starting to really take shape now. Ohhhh… there’s something about that P1A profile!
Are you going to show this in the erected position or flat on the trailer? I recall Yom Kipper, Oct 1973 when the missiles stood up… the first and only time that I saw that. We had gone to DEFCON ? when the Soviets threatened to send an airborne brigade in to the Middle East.
Photo below from Google Earth shows what’s left of the launch pad (bottom of pic) and Ft. Black Jack (top). The road between the two is where my photo above was taken. Features still identifiable and looks almost like I remember last time I was there in 1973. More woods close by now. The site was originally a French built Anti-Aircraft site.
Heavy - I was wondering if you were peeking!! Thanks for the comments. It’s been struggle but hopefully I’ll prevail!!
Mini - Thanks again for looking. As far as the display, the missile and launcher is built to move so it can be displayed either way but…the missile is big and heavy. Also once I get the paint on I and going to add the cable bundle to the umbilical and the hose to the umbilical. Once they are all on, I would be worried trying to raise the missile. I may test it but with all that hanging on, I am worried about balance and movement of all the umbilical connections . Though…it would look cool.
As you can see I’m undecided.
Cool shot of Ft Black Jack. I wonder how many times that section of real estate has been photographed from space???
Thanks again guys.

This deserves to be a FSM article, very well explained

Thank you for your view on this thread. I am considering turning it into an article. I don’t know if FSM is interested but I may give it a try.
Thanks again!

I joined just to say Wow! I’ve seen the EPL-1 kits go for some big bucks on eBay lately. It is good to see someone working one up with this level of care.
I scanned in the Pershing 1a System Description manual— it is online at:
http://www.stelmarski.com/pershingdocuments//manuals/OR13.149.pdf
The photos are not that great, but it may give you a bit of help. http://pershingmissile.org/ has a bunch of photos that might be helpful if you haven’t already been there.

First I am humbled that you joined just for this thread and have to say…[#welcome]
Next, yes this was not cheap but I don’t believe in buying a kits to sit on the shelf in the box. I bought this with the intent of building. Yes it is molded in the typical 70s type model. Generally correct but lacking fine details.
The Pershing is difficult since it was classified. Even the manual you have below, though nice, you will notice is missing the entire chapter on the erector/launcher [:-^].
As far as Pershing missile organization, I have been to their site and have all their pictures. Again thanks.
The lack of research material is one of the things that makes this kit a real challange. I have been lucky to get some help here and there from former Pershing redlegs.
I am glad you are enjoying the work and very much thank you for looking…Now its time to get off the computer and back to the bench…still a few details to finish.
Feel free to comment or jump in anytime and again nice to have you on board.
