Hi all. Been a while. I finally finished this kit, a 1/48th Hase MK IX. I’m sure the nose art gives it away.
This kit was an experiment. I used the Hase kit and the ICM kit to make one franken kit. I read in a review about all the MK IX kits available at the time and the pros and cons to each one. I decided to combine the best of these two kits. A project I’ll not take on again in the near future. I forget all the details about the build (it’s been going on since snow flew last, I think) so I’ll just touch on a few points.
Here you see some of the Hasegawa cockpits parts being incorporated into the ICM fuse. The ICM fuse is closer to the correct scale length than the Hasegawa part.
I added a few small parts of my own to help busy up the place.
I also used most of the Hasegawa control surfaces. The detail is much better on these parts. I did use the ICM ailerons because the fit problems were more than I wanted to mess with.
Things didn’t come together quite as I have hoped. There are problems the Spitfire guru will see (Be quiet Jon!) but it’ll do. I used the ICM prop blades and the Hase spinner. No, I didn’t fill the sink holes on the rear side of the blades.
I used this nose art on another kit I built some time ago with fictitous markings. A 1/32 mustang, IIRC.
The landing gear are hasegawa parts also. The ICM parts were horrible.
The paint is MM enamels and Tamiya acryls. Virtually no weather on this one but maybe in the future I’ll do some. I just wanted it off the bench for now.
There you go, my first completed kit since I brought the motorcycle back to life. I’m ready to move on to the next kit and I’m thinking the Eduard F6F may be next. The air is cooling off, the leaves are about to turn. Hot cocco and chilli are on the menu and the NFL is on the TV. Time to model!
…the main landing gear legs look a little too straight up and down. I’m thinking they should be splayed out just a bit more. Then again I’m not an expert! Great looking model!
Well, it sure impressed this guy! Excellent work, hk. That was quite an involved project to be sure, and it looks to me like you nailed it. The cockpit is especially well done. [tup]
I just have to say that I love this forum. When ever I see great build like your it just makes me want to try harder. Maybe one day I can build a kit to your level
