Filmmaker seeks miniature artist

Hello there -

So I’m a filmmaker who would like to chat with someone about a project. The short of the long of it is that I’m trying to a) find someone who can build a miniature model town (with a train) that’s based on a real small town and b) if you’re that someone, I need to get an idea what something like this will cost.

Here are some more details that might help:

I’m currently looking for small towns in the United States to shoot a film in. For example, Galion Ohio is a possibility. If/when the monies are raised for this project, I’ll need to scout Galion, take tons of photographs and then have a scale model built based on the photos/Galion.

The miniature model is something that the main character of the film is building in his bedroom. No larger than 5’ x 6’ propped up on a table that stands, say, four or four and a half feet off the floor. So while this miniature model town (prop) needs to be primarily finished there also needs to be one section of the model that is incomplete – the area that the main character is currently working on in the film.

Because I know nothing about miniature model building, I would need to rely on someone’s expertise so that I can get an accurate number on what this will cost to have built, the time that it will take to build, etc.

Please keep in mind that I do not currently have the production funds for this. Right now I am looking for someone who can give me a solid number/quote on what this job will cost to have completed.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me most anytime at Rostella@hotmail.com.

Thank you!

Rich

Have you talked with anyone in the model railroad hobby? Those guys specialise in stuff like this.

Rich:

You could locate through IPMS USA’s website a local chapter that could help you with this. It is not a difficult project in skilled hands. Given the correct information i.e. Photos, line drawings etc the buildings can be produced fairly inexpensively from cardboard, paper etc.

The scale you would most likely work in would be 4mm and there are plenty of ready made kits available that could be modified to fit your need. As well you could buy pre-made buildings and accessories from persons downsizing or changing their layout. One local hobby shop to me has plenty of these up for sale all the time.

As far as cost it would all come down to how much detail, what size and what materials would be used.

I would be interested in helping with this when you need.

Cheers;

Gregory
