White fire trucks? Ok, i could understand the yellow, its ver bright. But getting rid of all color on a fire truck is just wrong, evil, and not understandable. I guess they think the flashing lights and sirens and big red thing dont stand out enough. Id have to paint mine red if i built one.

There are some places that do the colors otehr than red for some reason. Supposedly white and yellow are more visible than red, but red is more identifiable as a fire truck. Wish some one would bring out a crash truck kit, those things are just tough looking.

The yellow works nice, but how many cars out there are wht? And with glare and stuff, it would be hard to see it, nonetheless identfy it. Kinda interesting though.

Oh I agree Randy. The city where my office is has the white ones. allways have to look twice to see if it is a fire apparatus or not. I guess I am more of a traditional red guy myself.
I too have seen fire trucks in white, in fact all of the local VFD trucks are, probably to differentiate them from the full time guys. The trucks in the above pic are from Baghdad Int’l, so I’d bet that they’re NATO or UN trucks. One of those groups colors are blue and white, aren’t they? Either way, probably painted white to signify non-combatants.
Perhaps I need to get out more, but I’ve never seen a red crash truck at an airport. Usually they’re yellow or fluorescent green.
They aren’t your run-of-the-mill firetrucks for putting out housefires; they’re for handling the aftermath of an airplane crash. Every once in a while I’ve seen them used effectively for other purposes.
Ckfredrickson speaks the truth. The flourescent green color has a higher frequency than red, therefore easier to see at longer distances. When you’re driving fast near aircraft that are also driving fast, visibility is important.

Yea the Jaguars that the Atlanta Fire Depthas used at the airport are pretty cool. They have had them for about 10 years now at least and I remeber when they first got them no one was to sure about them. One of my Chiefs also works for them and said that they have been great trucks. You can control everything on the truck from the driver seat by remote control and there is also a heads up display that shows infared. Cool stuff indeed. Now if someone would just make a kit out of it!
I don’t know; I just can’t get used to fire engines in colors other than red. I know some of them are a bright lime green; almost chartreuse in color. (Glendale, California is an example of a city with lime green fire trucks.) I’ve even seen a few white ones around. But somehow, fire engines are supposed to be RED! Any five year old can tell you that![:D]
I know my 5 year old can. Along with what type truck they are and how to turn on the red lights. [:D]
Of coarse i did see a pic of a purple truck in one magazine I used to get. I can only imagine the guys reaction to it when they delivered that one. [BH][censored]
I believe the purple one you refer to is in Grapesville, PA. Read a few years ago that they had them.
