I want to try using fibre optice to light a few kits [navigation/interior lighting]

Does anyone know where I can buy fibre optic strands that are not from plastruct [in Canada]? - can’t seem to google up anyone in Canada. Really I’m just looking for a small spool. I would have thought it easier to find!

Has anyone tried to canibalize one of those fibre optic lamps?

anyway - radio shack [now circut city] does not carry any such item, everything elsi I find is for data transmission and not suitable for lighting.

The next few days may be your best bet. Try to find some place that is having a blow-out sale on christmas items. Look for one of those fiber optic christmas trees and scavange all the fiber optics from one of those.

yea - my first thought was wal mart… though I hate going there…

But after 3 solid hours of searching I finally did find someone who sold exactly what I need…

http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/ - they are in california, but oh well…

also http://www.monroeperdu.com sells some assorted short lengths as well…

Anyway the first link confirmed my suspicion, plastic fibre optics are actually pretty cheap. starting around$0.07 / foot!
