FH-1 Phantom I

Does anyone know of a FH-1 kit? I’ve been building mostly armor lately, and I would like to do an aircraft to add a little variety to my pile of half finished kits. It would be nice to do something different than the familiar fighters I’m used to. I’m not new to aircraft, so it doesn’t matter if it is challenging. Thanks guys.

If you don’t mind the hefty price tag ($110), Collect-Aire has a beautiful 1/48 kit in resin

FH-1 Phantom - A historic jet. The forerunner to all Navy jet aviation. Our kit is a masterpiece. Finely engraved detail everywhere. Option folding wing, optional open gun bay, dropped flaps, full cockpit, wheel wells, large optional belly fuel tank. Colorful Scalemaster decals for Navy and Marines. Many metal parts. Another beauty!”

this i found on a local IPMS groups site:

VICTORIA PRODUCTS 1/48 FH-1 Phantom $30.15 VAC & RESIN

i’ve never heard of this manufacturer so ican’t atest to the quality of the forms.

Errr… maybe that one goes on the “gift” list. Perhaps I’ll go in a different direction. This is the cost of something a little different.[:)]

well i found a review for the MPM kit in 1/72, here’s the link

I found that kit for $38. Now I need some references. Thanks for digging up a kit for me. Off to the InterWeb.[tup]

VP is a long gone Canadian limited run outfit, their decals were decent, but their kits tended to be on the crude side.

A few shots I took in Elmira, New York.

Mortar;

I’ve seen either AMtech or Hobbcraft is trying to get the 1/48 FH-1 out but I can’t find the thread that states the kit, also I think Testors has released the old Hawk FH-2 or F2H but they are not to accurate compaired to todays standard

I’ll do some digging to see if I can find anything about those two companies. Thanks for the pics, might prove very useful.

Hard to tell from the pictures, but there is no ejection seat. It doesn’t even look like a WW II bucket seat. There is a tubular frame with a padded seat and back.

That looks like the most dangerous thing to bail out of ever made. There’s an intake, then jet exhaust, and then the elevator.

The MPM kit of the FH-1 Phantom is the only injection kit ever made of this ground breaker. There have been kits of the similar, but more advanced F2H Banshee released in the passed and maybe the future as mentioned by Cuda. Gary

Like the other fellah said-Collect Aire’s the only game in town. I have six of the old Hawk/Testors kits. With a lot of work I think I can make them into presentable F2H-1’s, F2H-2’s, F2H-2N’s, F2H-2P’ s and an F2H-3/4. I’ll keep one in reserve for parts. (I’m not too sure about the F2H-3/4.)

Step 1. Fill and correct all the old panel lines (they’re 'way too wide and deep)and re-scribe.

Step 2. Lengthen F2H-1 to F2H-2 dimensions.

Step 3. New corrected intake trunks and front of engine face.

Step 4. New corrected exhaust trunks and rear of engine face.

Step 5. Rebuild cockpit.

Step 6. New wheel wells (including wheel well inouter wing), landing gear and arresting hook.

Step 7. Build correct wing folds.

Step 8. Build correct weapons pylons and zero-length rocket mounts.

Step 9. New Canopy and windscreen.

Step 10. Correct wing tip fuel tanks.

Step 11. Accurate bombs, rockets.

Step 12. Drop flaps, deploy speed brakes.

Step 13. Deflect control surfaces and trim tabs.

Step 14. Correct wingtip position lights and fuel tank position lights.

Step 15. Wiring, brake & plumbing lines.

Step 16. Weight tires.

Step 17. Sand, polish & micro polish entire plane prior to painting.

Step 18. Paint and clear coat entire plane.

That should about do it.
