hi, im going to buy either Italerie’s Ferdinand or DML’s. Im wondering which colors i should use since i want to a monotone scheme that can be brushpainted as i dont have an airbrush. Also, would schokololadenbraun and olivegreen work if i was doing late war (assuming there were any elefants in 44-early 45), since it seems easy to do with paintbrush. Well thanks for taking the time to read this and i look forward to building this kit.

I’ve got some ref material with a few shots of ferd/elephants in both Kursk and Italy. They seem to be base colored in dark yellow with either green or red brown swatches. I’ve got one from Italy that has what I think are green spots. Spots would be hard to do without an air brush. One photo shows three new vehicles leaving the facvtory and they are in plain yellow, so they would be camo’ed in the field based on locale and time of year. I have an air brush, but I hand painted my elephant with dark green bands. Have no fear, give it a try.
I have a DML Elefant sittin here waitin to get built but I’m not very up on there color schemes. The box art shows the dark yellow base with green spots.
Just a suggestion… you can buy Tamiya dark yellow XF-60 in a small spray can if you find thats the way you need to go. It’ll at least let you spray the base and then hand paint spots.
If you can’t find it locally you can always mail order it.
Where’s Leopold, he’s the king of info on the Elefant. I have DML’ s and I heard it’s much better than Italeris. Love them or hate them, DML’s come with indy tracks compared to Italeri’s vinyl ones. I can’t honestly answer the color camoflauge with an conviction, but all colors should work. I’ve seen color drawings with both colors or one color on the base. I’ve never seen an ambush scheme. Near the bottom of the page are 6 Ferdinand paint scemes, I also know of 2 others if you don’t like any of these. If I can find someone to host the images, I’ll scan them in and post them. On the back cover of Squadron’s “Tiger in Action” is an Elephant of S. Pz. Jag. Abt. 653 in Italy wearing olivegreen and redbrown spots over dark yellow.
