You guys should track down the February 1987 issue of FSM. In it, there is an article where Randy Cooper describes his process of building science fiction models of his own design. The text is accompanied by photographs of a few models, which will get the imagination going. I submit that this little four-page article is the Magna Carta, the Rosetta Stone, of sci-fi scratchbuilding. I give “mad props” to the author, Larry Munne.
(no i don’t work for FSM, just raving.)
Randy Cooper does good work.[8D] http://www.starshipmodeler.org/gallery6/rc_2001.htm
That looks great i need to start more custom stuff
I got to see his stuff up close and personal at a small nodel show in the area. Chatted with him for a while, super nice guy, down to earth. Loved the lighted Gunstar.
That would have been a real treat.
Anyone know if he has a website?
I’ve looked and have only found a few photos at the Pasadena(?) scale model club website. It would be great if he had a full-blown web presence.
Brian aka Zaphod
He has a few models in the Reader Gallery over at Starship Modeler.
I’ve been a Randy fan since I saw that issue way back then. I emailed him to tell him about my worship of his work and he emailed me some pix of stuff he’s done in the last few years (including a time machine model).
Awesome stuff!
John
Yes the Time Machine was impressive. I wouldn’t know where to start with something like that.
The interior on that Space Hopper is incredible![bow]
I think I have seen that scratch built time machine from the 1960’s movie. it was great.
