well to start off mine is the P40 warhawk
its got some nice lines and i like the big airvent on it and that shark facce looks cool and it was used in pretty much every theartre of the war
I’ve always lived P-40’s, mainly because they look tough. Not the best plane, but as far as looks… win. Suprisingly, I’ve also liked A-10’s. Can’t beat a tank in the sky. 
Mine would be the Reggiane Re.2005. It was one of the last three Italian designs to enter service prior to the Armistice of 1943. Its the sexy Italian cousin to the P-47 derviing from the same forebears. Some of the engineers that worked for Reggiane previously worked on the Seversky P-35. Their first result was the Re.2000 which shows very much the influence of the Seversky/Republic line of aircraft. The wings and tail continue many of the same design lineage. With speed, manueverability and good armament it had all the making of a winner. Too bad it appeared way too late to give it a chance to prove itself.

Piper J 3 Cub. It will go anywhere. With tires it’ll take you into any grass or gravel strip, put skis on it and you have a glacier flyer, floats and it will land you in impossibly small ponds, with tundra tires you can land in a mud puddle. Besides it taught me and a whole lot of others how to control, really control, an airplane. It’s the only airplane I’ve been able to stop in mid air (given a 40 knot headwind).
If you want to talk about warplanes I’ll pick the F4F Wildcat. That little airplane helped American pilots hold the line when the line had to be held. An American flyer on Guadalcanal said “don’t be too critical of the Wildcat, it shoots the enemy down in flames and brings most of us home alive”. High praise for a suposedly inferior aircraft.
Have to agree with jbrady on the J3 as a light aircraft. On the warbird side, it would be the beautiful and quickly designed P-51D (or F-51D), and also the first one I serviced in my military experience. A close third would be the Cessna 172 I used to own.

I would have to say the B-24.For pretty much the same reason as the P-40.It wasnt the best maybe but it served everywhere and was a jack of all trades

For me it’s the P-51D it looks fast just sitting on the ground. Plus some of the painting that was done to them really accented the lines of the aircraft.
If pure looks are the criteria then I would like to offer the FW 190

F-14. Top Gun. I was 5, it was cool.
Bf-109 – specifically the E-series. Business-like, functional, no nonsense in every way. The entire Bf-109 line soldiered on long after they were oit-classed by more advanced Allied aircraft like the P-51, later marks of the Spitefire, etc. The Bf-109F was the most beautiful of the breed and probably its peak.
But, what do I know? I build nasty, noisy, oily panzers.
Mine pesonally is the F-4 Phantom. I guess I like everything from the 60’s - 70’s, strange for a kid my age.
Got to be the Bf 109, sleek, love the sound of the Daimler and no other plane can match it’s kill total.
If we’re just talking Warbirds, well… For sheer looks and sleek lines, it’s the Spitfire… While the Mustang is a “Playmate of the Month”, the Spit takes it as “Playmate of the Year” IMHO…
But I have favorites from all eras of flight, well, at least until everything got painted grey… After that happened, I kinda lost interest in aircraft…
I’ve always liked the P-47, it is very much a symbol of the “bigger hammer” theory in action. You can almost hear Tim Allen, saying “It needed more power, so I re-wired it, grunt, grunt, grunt” [:D]
So many, but i’ve always been partial to the Spitfire. I love the looks and the sound of the merlins.
No surprise, mine would have to be the F-8 Crusader…it did things no other plane did.
When it came into service, it blew the doors off of everything in the world. The last fighter with guns as primary weaponry…first flew in 1955, and the French examples finally retired just before the turn of the century. Not too many fighters can say they saw active service for nearly 50 years. This was a plane that took a good deal of skill to fly, it wasnt an easy machine to master. The F8U-3 would have been one massively serious beast if it had gone into production. I remember a story about these birds when NASA was flying them, they would fly from Pax River, and routinely engage and defeat Navy Phantoms in mock dogfights at will. The Navy got bent about it and put a stop to it. There was one civilian F-8 flying in the US up until about 1998 or so…and it was flown under contract for military testing. Compared to modern planes, the old Crusader more than held its own. Against an F-15 in clean configuration, the Crusader would run the Eagle clean out of gas. Against the F-16, the Crusader could fly on the deck–20 feet above the ground–and walk away from the Falcon. The acceleration was that good out of the old J-57. Man I wish Paul Allen would get his 2 Crusaders back flying…
If I would be completley honest my favourite is the Me109, especially the G-6. But that would be boring so I take number two as my number1.
And that is FW190, I don’t know a whole lot about the type but it has a solid service record and proved to be most effective. I can’t really put my finger on it but it has a feeling of quality, it looks neat, tight and well enginered. like a Porsche.
