What I would like is to hear from you modelers on what is your favorite car , Why you built the model , What was the build experience like and have you ever driven the real thing ? Now for reasons of safety no race cars will be included . Near race , road ready , will be acceptable .
I ask this because I find my collection dwindling due to parting with some models to acquire the ones I drive , have driven and owned plus the miniatures in , Coupe , Sedan , Convertible and Station Wagon ( if such existed in that make )
Some of my favorites are these . 49 Ford Club Coupe .( first car I owned and learned to drive on ) 57 Chev Bel-Aire 2dr ht . ( first new car ) 58 Cadillac Coupe De Ville ( First Caddy ) and the " Beast " 65 Chrysler New Yorker 9 passenger Wagon Definitely a military , post to post transportation vehicle .
Lastly my first sports car , An Austin - Healy-3000 , Just like the Revell box cover car. Sadly . my last three no one makes models of . Ah Well , who cares ? they looked like different sized "People Pods " ( my name for the last ten year crop of average cars )

I seldom build car models, but recently saw a 1959 Cadillac El Dorado at Hobby Lobby, so I grabbed it. Why? It’s very close in appearance to my first car, a 1960 Cadillac convertible. The only difference is the tail fins were tamed down a bit for 1960. I painted it to match my old car- red body, black roof and black interior. This is a Revell model, and is a very accurate reproduction of the real thing. (Sorry, I don’t do the photo hosting thing anymore.)
First car I really liked was '65 Mustang, have owned two in past years, coupe and fastback, along with a '69 fastback with a transplant 428CJ, that would plant you back in the seat in all 4 gears.
Built the '65 coupe further back in history than I care to remember, and was it ever a gluebomb. No pics from way back then, can only thank the modeling God’s for that. Would hate to have pics of that thing surface now, knowing what I do about building now. Would have to go hide in shame.
Want to build models of my '81 Cherokee 2 door widetrack (with the steel factory fender flares) and my '88 Cherokee. The '88 body is available through Shapeways, going to have to get it one day, and make a replica of my camo’ed rig.
I was building models LONG before I cared anything about 1:1 cars, other than to use as transportation to the BX! Now, however, I’m catching up by trying to locate representations of what I have driven, or are interested in, and putting them in my stash for when I’m too poor to afford any more kits.
My first car was a '53 Chevy convertable bought in '58. Couldn’t find any models of it but I did find '54s. Bought the kit and built it as the '53 using scratch parts and my first attempt at chopping the top off a car kit. Turned out pretty good, for what my skill level was at the time. Don’t have any pics of it and the car was in a bad accident while going from one house to another.
I had a 1984 Nissan 300ZX n/a. I built Tamiya’s Fairlady Z kit. Only differences were that the kit car was a turbo, and did not feature t-tops. The box art was the same colour as mine, the horrid steel-blue and blue leather interior. Fun car though, and had some innovations ahead of its time.
Many… Many years ago I built Jo-Han’s Haulin Hearse and wanted the real thing after that.
In 2002 I finally bought my “Dream Car” A 1975 Cadillac Sayers & Scofield Custom Victoria.
After many car shows, and years and years of working at Haunted houses, and renting myself out for Prom’s, Wedding’s, and Strip club bar hopping, She finally succumed to the MAG CLORIDE that Nevada spray’s on it’s dirt roads. The cancer spread fast. This is the last picture I ever took of her.
This was shortly after we moved to Nevada. Our brief ( 6 year ) stay, totally destroyed the frame and inside the doors and body pannels. Her roof was Black padded vinyl and I was in the procces of replacing the top when this pic. was taken.
I have since then picked up a Jo-Han Heavenly Hearse and am going to build it like my car. But it’s not quite right . The Heavenly Hearse is a 1967 and I’m not even going to try to “HACK” it up to match a 1975.

I have always loved the Kurtiss Kraft midget race cars. I think they are the best looking racing cars ever. I was thrilled a couple years ago when Revell released their new KK Midget model and I was not disappointed when I built it. I have built a second, and have two more kits in the stash to build a diorama of the cars on a track. Beautiful kit- too bad it was not a success in the marketplace.
I also loved the old Watson Roadsters. I have built several of the old AMT kit, a so-so kit but for years the only game in town. The ultimate Watson Roadster kit was the Etzel Speed Classics kit, which is a star of my collection. ESC Miller is the best kit of that car, too.
Only thing Ive owned(still do) and built a model of is a Ford Expedition. Not because Ive always wanted one. The real thing was cheap and in decent shape. The model was thebonly thing to pull thebGalaxy ltd trailer.
