Guys,
Manstein started a great thread asking us what is our “Dream Project”. For me it is my German FAMO with the trailer, it’s in the BIG box on my shelf right now.[sigh] I expressed that part of the reason I hadn’t started mine was that I didn’t know what I wanted to do…do I add a new tank, a damaged tank, or maybe even a captured tank, to the trailer…how do I paint it…gray or 3-scheme camo’[%-)]?
I thought a kit of this magnitude, and cost, deserved the best setting too. I haven’t done a dio’ in awhile and I felt this kit would warrant such a display. And best yet, there’s still time to have it ready for Nationals this year if I start soon!
I need the ULTIMATE IDEA…and I thought…where else to get such idea than from the minds, and skills of you guys! Does anybody have a photo, considered this build, or have a suggestion for this “Granddaddy”(in my mind) of all builds. DON’T hold anything back, the skies the limit (not in a $$$ sense)…get those creative juices flowing. I would REALLY appreciate whatever ideas you wish to contribute. Thanks.

lol, funny you should mention this, since about a year ago I started working on a dio with the FAMO and trailer, but ended up selling it. I had depicted it on a cobble road, next to a ditch, with the rear units of the trailer disconnected, and loading up a StuG.III. All of the cabling and whatnot required for it would create lots of nice visual interest, along with tools and mechanics strewn about the place trying to figure it all out. I got the idea off of a picture I saw in FSM, but I have no idea of the issue number.
A greatly damaged Pz.Kpfw. IV variant. Panzer IV, Stug IV, ETC… try making it battle damagedMaybee a round penatraded it, with a fire that had started in the engine compartmentThe Tank Worksop sell burned out Panzer IV wheels. Also leave the track off.

when i did mine i painted it overall dark grey then went back and painted it dark yellow with red and green camo,i was trying to portray a field applied sprayed paintjob late 1942 early 43,and i used the decals for the “herman goring” div. imho it tunred out well,i placed it on a base pullin out a stug III with a thowen track the whole thing is over three feet long and i need to go back and redo figs.imho that type of vehicle needs to be shown “working” buy another famo and pull a tiger around.P.S. your gonna love the build however watch out for the steering tie rods on the “trucks” as they are a bit confusing.
armornut,
Sounds like an awesome build!!! Do you have any pics’???
i think the trailer looks great empyt, this offers a great oppertunity to weather the deck
I agree totally with MarkDunc’s idea, Steve–it’s time for you to attempt the holy grail of modeler’s skill, IMO–weathering a burnt-out tank!
Can’t find the pic but I saw one completely loaded with 50 gallon fuel drums. Stacked on their sides pretty high with cables over the top to hold them down. Anyway here are some other pics for you.

I agree with Doog and Markdunck, A brewed out tank would be perfect, as long as it’s not the one I’m doing[:)].I’ll have to do some searching for a nice pic for you.

With that Panzerkampfwagen IV Infantry assault bridge, I believe you may have that unique factor you were looking for.
I don’t recall seeing a dio with a tank in the proccess of being loaded/off loaded.
Just out of curiosity is someone going back through 2008 and looking for old threads to resurrect? This is the 2nd or 3rd one I’ve seen today where people are commenting on stuff that’s 14+ months old…not complaining mind you, just curious as to what’s sparking this mini-phenomenon. [;)]
lol! I didn’t even noticed the date [(-D] These were great pics though.
Check out this ambitious dio with no less than THREE Famo’s:

Ooooo[:O]…I like it! I have a Tiger in the stash too…hmmmm
