FALLEN - Diorama No. 9

FALLEN!
Wrong Place, Wrong Time.

This diorama is about a paratrooper who missed his drop zone and got wounded in his way down. What’s worse is that he found himself facing a column of German soldiers on the move. Unable to completely hide his parachute, he is now on the verge of being discovered.

What happens next is anybody’s guess. But it looks like he is not going down without a fight.

Again I never really planned for this one. All I wanted to do was make a base for my 1/35 Tamiya BMW R75 with Sidecar that I have recently completed. The kit came with 4 figures and I just thought of doing a marching scene or something. But last Saturday night I was watching Band of Brothers and got the idea to do something about paratroopers who missed their drop zones. Luckily I still have another German Soldier figure as well a spare Paratrooper (both from Dragon) so I just added them to the diorama. Using tissue paper, I made the parachute. The camo scheme of the parachute is just assumed seeing some patterns from BOB. The paratrooper figure looks a bit shiny under intense light but looks dull in reality.

Anyway, your comments are always welcome.

good one!! the idea is simple but effective. this could easily be a movie scene! just like all the dioramas that we see on the forums here, yours is awsome. [tup]

SWEET! The under brush is perfect! I like the way you have shown the sense of suspense. Its really cool! well all I can say now is, He’s done it again!

BTW, I like your mudy road, what did you use to make it?

Wow, realliy nice Dwight. How’d you do the road? It looks really good.

Thanks, Jason, John and scer16.

The road is just basically styrofoam topped with wall putty painted with Tamiya Dark Brown and Buff . Some rough turf materials were sprinkled on it to represent grass growing in the depressions on the road. Then I airbrushed buff ob some areas for variation in shading.

Hey Dwight,

Excellent concept on this dio. I like how you got your inspiration for it. Great work.

Once again a great piece. I like the drama of this one. Truly an experience that would make most crap their pants. (Cheesy 50’s era announcer voice) “Will he get out of this one alive?? Stay tuned for more DWIGHT TA-ALA to find out!”

Now that’s all it needs to make it a movie scene.

Thanks.

“…every picture(diorama) tells a story…don’t it”
from a Rod Stewart song…1st thing that comes to mind…
thanks Dwight…[bow]
very, very clever, innovative & emotional…

Great dio, very good work on scenery and camo

Beautiful diorama, Dwight! Model soldiers need dioramas like this one to “come alive”, so to speak. It’s clear that your paratrooper didn’t have time to make use of the lush foliage for camouflage. You put him in a tight spot, indeed. I’d like to make my own diorama one time, and I hope it will look as good as yours. I’m looking forward to your tenth.

Excellent job. The first German is going to be in for a very big surprise when he rounds the brush. I am thinking the paratrooper will get two or three before they can react.

Thank you for the very kind words everyone. I retouched some of the figures already after some friends pointed out some bloopers[:D] in the diorama.

I am now off to the tenth but it is a big one. As I ahve been thinking, after 9 dioramas there s already a great deal of lessons that I have learned (also from the suggestions and recommendations of your guys) and I will use them to make a better Diorama No. 10.

Again thaks all.

Hey Dwight… that looks GOOD man!! [;)]

Too bad the G.I. don’t have a Thompson… I think he could take every one of them before they’d have a chance to react (if he popped up and started firing before they see the parachute)… the Kraut in the sidecar looks like the only one who’s even remotely close to being “ready to shoot”… take him out first and spray the others. [:)] Maybe chug a grenade over those fabulous looking bushes, and as soon as it… naaaa… they’re too close for a grenade.

Beautiful work Dwight! Your dio spawns scenario’s and that’s good! [;)]

Thank you for posting, I enjoyed it!

Take care,
Frank

Thanks, Frank. I have received a lot of “what happens next” scenarios on this one and many seems to think that the paratrooper has a good fighting chance.

It feels good to have completed something that makes people think beyond what is presented.

Another nice dio Dwight![:D][^]

Wish I could get my underbrush to look that realistic.

like damn, sucks to be the guy hiding huh? lol. very nice, keep up the good work

Thanks for the comments tweety1 and ERAD. Experimenting with various ordinary materials is really nice. I am getting good results and these are very cheap, too. I am glad that you like it.
