Falklands War GB

Hiya giuys, not often i find myself in this neck of the woods. But seeing as theres not many GB’s that take ships into account, i thought i would give you guys a heads up. VanceCrozier and myself will be running a falklands War GB to mark 30 years since the war in 2012. It won’t start until Oct 1st this year, so plenty of notice. It will cover the war itself and the 30 years since.

I believe Dragon have a few ship kits from RN vessels from the war, but i am sure there are others out there. And it can also include civvie ships that would used, such as the QE 2 that was used as a troop ship. Since the war the RN has had a presenec down there. HMS Clyde (P257) has been down there for a few years and is due to remain until 2012. HMS Enurance worked from there until 2008. And the navy rotate ships every 6 months or so.

Hopefully we will see some of you guys get on board. A falklands GB would not be complete without some ships. Theres a feeler post on the B Forum, so if your interested pop over and let us know. Would be great to have you.

Interesting. I would be interested, but can you provide the names of all vessels, or their likeness’ that were involved? Some kits are not readily available everywhere… What was the final tally of vessels-tonnage involved-lost? Seems the losses were heavy at the beginning. Elaborate, please.

I would think that the Argentine Navy’s light cruiser General Belgrano, sunk during the Falklands War, would be a top rated candidate for your GB. Belgrano was a Brooklyn class cruiser formerly named Phoenix when in the USN. Brooklyn class kits in WW2 format are available from Midship Models in 1/700 scale and can be found at Freetime Hobbies and Pacific Front Hobbies websites. WS
