Fairey Gannet?

Is there a Fairy Gannet kit out there? Ugly as heck but still very cool looking. I’d loving to have one in my collection

nevermind, I found the recent issue of Trump’s 1/72 kit, but has anyone built it?

I just did an online search, and found a company called Dynavector, a manufacturer in the UK that does a vacu-form kit of that subject.

UK? the Dynavector Airmodels is from Japan… i thought

ok, this is really funny. I did a search for “Fairy Gannet” on the forums and it gave me the three previous posts for this thread [:D]

That’s 'cos you spelt it ‘Fairy’ instead of the correct ‘Fairey’. Try a search with the latter spelling ans I’m sure you’ll be indundated.

Michael

You thought right…my mistake. Distributor was in the UK.

ooooops

DOH!!! I feel like such an idiot… thanks for correcting me, it saved me a lot of trouble

Ugly is RIGHT… But very cool looking

Bud

Dynavector makes pretty nice vacuform kits, my Wyvern (kit 4802) in 1/48 has white metal detail parts. The Airmodel vacforms are much cruder and poorly shaped. I have several and will probably never attempt them. Probably…

Airmodel is a German company. Dynavector may be from Asia now, but I seem to think they were first from England.

ok, I did a search for FairEy Gannet and got a pagefull of results…[:I]

it looks like the Gannet could fall right outta the sky with that fat fuse of its.

yeah… Dynavector doesnt sound Asian. an Asian company would go something like “Gundam aeroplanes” or “Lucky Air Models” or something corny or cheesycough like that… but then again… I’m stereotyping, and that’s bad [:D]

Well, at least it doesn’t have ‘gossamer’ wings like Tinkerbell…[;)]

Michael

Didn’t Airfix have a kit of it?

Nope, but you’re lucky!

Trumpeter has a 1/72 kit, and there’s a whole bunch on eBay right now for about $30 bucks a piece.

I’m not sure they ever did. The only old kit I know of is the ancient Frog offering with moulded-in pilots heads. This has been released by Novo and Eastern Express and even Revell recently but it’s pretty crude.

Michael

Squadron is offering the Eastern Express kit now and I saw one of the most brutal discriptions that they put on a model for sale.

“Raised lines with no cockpit”

I’ve never seen Squadron put anything in the description section derogartory of the model [:O]

It’s true enough though, and I suppose they have to make sure people understand. It’s a kit for its time - it’s just a pity that time’s long gone. It’s a pity also Revell weren’t so frank on the box of their release. I’ve got one and I’ll build it for nostalgia’s sake, I love those old kits and they take me back to my youth.

I’m sure the Trumpeter kit is technically brilliant but it doesn’t have the same cachet. It’d be good to see it in 1:48 with their contra-rotating mechanism as in the Wyvern - especially if it had those fantastic double-folding wings!

Michael

can you quote what Revell says on their box?

I fell on my back and started screaming when I saw the price tag on the Trump 1/48 Wyvern though. the Gennet came as 1/72 like the first Wyvern did, and in a few month’s I wont be surprised to find a 1/48 Gannet going for like 60 bucks or something. In a few years, Trump has gone up with all the resin manufacturers… I’d hate for that to happen

Actually the old Frog Gannet isn’t so bad if you want a real workout for your skills and there is aftermarket out there for it. If you’re interested, here’s a link to an in box review I wrote about it, the review predates the recent Trumpeter release:

I’ve seen the Trumpeter Gannet in the box and its not bad, a pretty plain jane affair though. Recessed panel lines and underdone cockpits. The main gear wells also look a bit over simplified and too deep according to pics I’ve found on the net.

My advice is to be patient until Summer 2007. According to the IPMS Germany website, Revell-Germany has announced a new tooled 1/72 Gannet. I’d say it should be no problem for RoG to outdo Trumpeter on this one, they had a real Gannet to crawl all over in a German museum.

Here’s hoping RoG will get the cockpits right and give it an open weapons bay option.
