Failed contra-prop experiment: Epilogue... (XP-56)

Y’all remember this little adventure from a while back?

Well, despite giving up on a working contra-prop gearbox (for now…), I haven’t given up on the kit. I entertained the idea of holding on to it until I try again, but an airplane this cool had languished for too long. I finally pulled it out again and did a bit more work on it.

Some stuff here (like the wings) are glued together, while others (like the fuselage) are just taped. This is going to be and OOB, canopy-closed model. I’m also going to build the first prototype (as opposed to the second, as I originally intended), and probably not going to put a whole lot of scratchbuilt extras into it.

This is one of about five ongoing projects, so expect progress to be slow.

And a special treat- I’m looking at trying AGAIN to make a working contra-prop gearbox. I’m going to try a different style of gearbox which may be a bit easier to build, but it’s reliability depends on one tiny belt…

We’ll see. [;)]

As always, thanks for looking.

That’s a cool model. Great job with the motor installation. The 1/48 Trumpeter Wyvern includes a geared, working counterrotating prop. I wonder if something like that could be modified to work. Regardless, that’ll be a sweet model when done.

Sheesh Lucien! I was about to add you to the MIA list in another forum! Now I know where you were…figures it would be something esoteric! Nice!

I am confident that if it can be invented and built, you are the modeler to do it, Mike! You have so many cool projects in the works that it is hard to keep up with them all! You need to give us a mass update on all, starting with the Goose and moving along from there [swg] I realize that that post might take a few days to put together…[(-D]

Thanks for posting and the update. I always enjoy reading your builds, so different and creative! Good luck!
