Hi guys, how do you fade paint? As most of you know I’m building a T-55 and am planning to paint it in a dark yellow or desert yellow, not sure yet. How could I fade the paint to make it look like it’s been exposed to a lot of sun light?
I spray the basecoat without adding anything to it and then mix basecoat (desert tan) and white and spray this onto the model. If I want a more faded color, I will add more white each time I paint the model. I do recommend that you try this on scrap styrene to get used to mixing the paints and spraying them. Airbrush several light coats of paint instead of one heavy coat of paint to build up the faded paint color. But practice first!
Thanks
You can also try dry pastels.
I dont recommend any drybrushing for a better smooth finishl.
I agree with kaleu. Paint the basecoat with the original color Then lighten the basecoat and airbrush all the open areas with a light coat. Leave the undersides, corners, nooks and cranies alone. Then do a second light coat only on the topsides. Follow this up with your weathering.
May I add one thing. You might want to undercoat the areas where you want to show fading with white. Spray your basecoat lightly, letting just a hint of the white show through giving the impression of fading.
