I have the Italeri !772 F6F-5N, the night fighter version… here’s the poblem: in the instructions sheet says that I must paint the landing gear doors, landing gear legs, wheel hubs, and tail wheel well insignia white… but the main gear well must be painted green zinc chromate… is that correct?.. I’ve seen pictures of aircraft painted over all dark sea blue, included landing gear wells… did these Hellcats with white undersides have landing gear wells in white?..
Hellcats had there wheel wells, gear door interiors and gear legs painted the same colour as the underside of the aircraft. So if the underside is white, pait the gear wells white (same goes for blue ones). the wheels were usually painted the underside colour too.

The airplane is blue and the wheel wells are probably blue. Whether some or all of the gear doors and/or radome are white or not depends on the specific airplane.
