With everyone else posting their first builds of 2006, I have to get mine in too! Once again, my simple weekend kit turned into a 2 month build (but my “honey do” list has shrunk incredibly!). Here is my latest, the 1/48 Tamiya kit, done OOB, including decals. The second model I’ve built as an adult (seen in one of the pictures) a few years back was a Tamiya Corsair, and I was pretty disappointed with how it turned out, so I had to try another. I had a lot of fun with this one.
This build was basically a “slump buster”, as I am having a horrible time with the raised panel lines on the Revell AG B-26. I’ll save that for another post…
Here are pics of the progress and outcome. I completed the exhaust stacks and wing tip lenses after I took the photos and I’ll screw around with an aerial on another rainy day.
Thanks for letting me share
“Big Hog” a disastrous build from a few years back poses with my latest Corsair. “Big Hog” has been designated to dark-corner-in-the-basement duty, where she proudly collects dust.
Gumiflex, Rick, Janswede, Leon, RadMax, Darwin, Jerry, Tigerman and Deatillio:
Thank you for the nice words and encouragement.
Tigerman:
I’m one step ahead of you…I have the AM Vindicator and Helldiver in my stash. What I really want to do is a Hellcat. I hear Hasegawa has the best game in town, but I’ll browse the review sites before buying. A Kingfisher and Catalina wouldn’t be bad either. I just love the Navy color schemes.
Jeeves…nice work, but the Devastator has such a gosh-awful look to it (like a lot of the torpedo bombers of the era…the Vindicator, Helldiver etc.) It’s almost beautifully ugly.
By chance is the Monogram kit with…dare I mention it’s evil name…raised panel lines? These are my sworn enemy at the moment.,emphasis on the “sworn” as many an ugly word has been uttered in the depths of my basement.
I believe it does mucker-- but the ones on the wings are supposed to be there. I am with you on that though-- I am also attacking the B-26…although considering I just build for myself to relieve stress- I am not worrying about panel lines. At least not in this stage of my building…maybe someday…
Mark, thank you for the compliment. I ran across “Color of Eagles” acrylic paints, which may be rebottled Aeromaster paints or Vallejo. They come in the dropper bottle, which is nice, and I’ve been very happy with the results. So far I’ve only purchased a few greys and blues, but I look forward to buying more from their line. I believe they also have some pre-weathered/faded shades.
