F4U-5N Corsair finished

Great job as usual, Bill. You’ve captured the feel of a tired old warbird admirably, sir. Thanks for sharing your build tips with us.

Thanks Ed !

It’s my pleasure to share them with anyone who’s interested. You know me - no “secrets” here !

Joe - paint fading of this kind depends on the environment and time in service. If the aircraft was based in England, and replaced by a bubbletop after a short period of time, it would be less likely to be faded this way. I’ve never heard of England being called a “sunny little isle.” Tropical and desert climates are more likely to produce these effects. This Corsair was in use in 1969, in the tropics of Central America. American paint and stencils suggest that it was not repainted, so the fading is probable. Carrier aircraft of the Pacific are also good candidates, especially fighters that are kept at the ready on the flight deck. There’s nothing to protect them from the elements.

Thanks again !

Hey pix, you think you could send some of your refrence photos my way?? Thanks! My email is RadMax8@wowway.com
Joe- When you lighten OD, I’ve read that using a dark yellow (If you use Tamiya, use the colors Olive Drab and Dark Yellow, other companies i’m sure have different names for the dark yellow color) to lighten the OD works very well. Good luck!
