F4, advice welcome

Since I’m just starting back into this, I’ve pondered long and hard as to what to attempt as my second model. My first is a corsair, not noteworthy, but a good learning test. I’ve concluded that my absolute favorite plane as a kid was the phantom, with the B17 a close second. I’m sure the phantom is a regular favorite, and a quick perusal of internet sites has me kind of saying geez, so many options. Thinking 1/48 for scale. I think everyone and their dog makes it though.

Here’s where you come in. Who makes a very good, detailed model? I don’t want a Revell skill level 2 for kids. And I’ve looked at amazon for books, I really want to focus on what and adult modeler should, or at least, what I think I should: a degree of accuracy. Recommendations there also greatly appreciated, or other resources for details, markings, paint schemes, etc.

I believe most people favorite in 1/48 would be one of the Hasegawa kits, and they do I few, if you want a slightly more challenging build try an Eduard PE set and some custom decals.

I am currently working on Testor’s F-4G Wild Weasel. Not much detail in the cockpit and faily simple. Kit cost was under 20 Bucks…not bad for a 1/48 scale so I bought it. No recessed panel lines, only raised.
It is a level 2. level two only many how many parts it has. done right with a little extra detail and it will be a great model.
I am upgrading my F4G arsenol with the Hasagawa Bomb/Missle kit C though. lots of good stuff in there. It going to be maxed out.
Good luck

Thanks. Locally only Revell and a little Tamiya get stocked, so I just ordered the Hasegawa RF4E-J and scored a whole pile of outstanding pics someone had posted on their site. Saved those to the hard drive. That will be most handy.

Wish me luck.
