I’m building the Academy F/A-18c and have decided to go with the folded wing option. My question is - can the outboard flaps on the folded portion of the wings be in an extended position - or do they have to be in the zero position? It seems that the inboard flaps can be extended with wings folded - but I’m not sure about the ourboard flaps.
thanks a bunch,
Paul
Paul,
From what I’ve seen in pics and on actual carriers, the flap is in the zero position.

Paul, the electric wing folds in the Hornet are actually controlled by the two FCC’s (flight control computers), so when the Pilot selects the wing fold position the computer automatically sets zero position if the aircraft has hydralic power. If the a/c is only on electrical power, the wings can still be folded electrically. However, two people have to push the ailerons to the zero position manually. ( Good AE’s know how to by-pass this [:D]) Once up, sometimes maint. personnel or the wind ( if, say, the a/c was on the bow of the ship) will push the ailerons off zero. [:p] Hope this helps - Calvin
Thanks to all for their help - it sure has answered my question.
Cheers,
Paul
