F-89C, WIP

This is the start of the 1/48 scale Revell F-89C Scorpion and will have the Michigan ANG markings at Detroit IAP. The Radar Operator’s panel is on the left and the Pilot’s on the right.

Wow! Nice job on the gauges, they look very real!

Darwin, good to see some progress pics from you! I enjoy seeing your work. Please, keep up the good work and don’t forget to post/build more for us!

Panels look good Darwin. I don’t know if the C is different from the D, but on it you can see back into the fuselage past the rear seat unless you scratch a bulkhead to put there. The bottom part between the engines can be fun to fit too, but I think it is a great kit.

I cannot waite to see the finished Scorpion. By any chance have you come across the FS number for the red used on the outer wing panels and the tail sections? I have read everything from insignia red to dark red, and even “arctic red”. Anyone have an accutrate FS # for the red? I ran across a web page with great pictures of the F-89 ejection seats. If you are interested I’ll post the web site. I have a 1/72nd scale J model waiting for paint.

Great job on the Scorpion, Darwin. I’ll be following your build closely…someday I’d like to get one of these kits.

Bert Kinsey’s book on the F-89, “Detail & Scale”, addresses the red color in the evaluation of the various plastic kits. Several of the kits mention arctic high visibility which some interpret to be arctic red. Mr Kinsey states multiple times that the correct color is insignia red. To complicate matters, some units also used International Orange for the high visibility portions of the paint scheme. rangerj, I would definately be interested in that web site for the ejection seats. Thanks.

Darwin,

Try this; http:www.ejectionsite.com/f89seats.htm

Let me know if that works OK. If it does not I’ll double check it.

That web site address worked just fine. Thanks for providing it. The photos are very useful.
