F-86F Harness Color

Anyone know what color the lap belts and shoulder harnesses in an F-86F would have been? The only pictures I’ve found so far of the seat show it without any belts installed. I’m guessing they were typical dingy off-white to gray but that’s just a guess.

Scott,

I can only tell you the “off white” or light gray was what I used on my F-84, I saw this in a few pit shots from the era. I would guess the F-86’s would have the same generic harnesses. It’s only a guess, I think there is a link somewhere to a site that shows nothing but AC cockpits, but I cant find it right now…

Steve

The color’s that I see in some photos of the '86 is off white to khaki.

I don’t have the answer to your question, but wonder if you have the answer to mine: what color is the cockpit, the seat, and the canopy interior frame of the 86F? Thanks

Thanks, Steve. That’s kind of what I was going on as well. I looked at some of the seats from the same era on www.ejectionsite.com and the ones that are in color show a gray-ish sort of color. Probably white that has just gotten dirty over time would be my guess.

Jayzee, we posted at the same time … Most of the cockpit is a light gray color. You can see it in the pix **On This Site** Part of the panel is black. It also appears to vary with the variant, and probably whether or not the pictures are from rebuilt planes.

Thanks. The ejection site was helpful. The other link seems not to be working. Much appreciated,

jayzee

Well, we’ll do it the hard way:
Go to this site: http://gra.midco.net/mlgould/
Click Jet Fighters and then the F-86. The link for the F-86F-40-NA shows the cockpit color the best.

Thanks, perfect.
