Nice site! Thanks for the tip!

great site! thanks for the info.

This is perfect! I needed a good F-86 reference site for the sabre i’m building! [:D]

Perfect timing. I picked a sabre the other day. Be handy for when I start it. Thanks!!

Thanks so much Sir for the cool site for F86’S. Any good kits you can recomend?

Very good link for Sabre fans. I have a couple of his books and they are very worthwhile.

jilopez : There are 2 good kits in 1/48, one by Hasegawa and one by Academy. I have only built the Hasegawa kit and it is excellent. The Academy kit has gotten mostly favorable reviews, but I haven’t built one. In 1/72, there is the Hobbycraft / Academy kit which is good, the old Hasegawa kit which is fair, and the Fujimi kit which is very good, but hard to find. If you want a F-86D, the Revell / Monogram in 1/48 is excellent, as is the 1/72 Hasegawa. Several aftermarket detail sets and decals are also available for all models. There are other, older kits around but these are the best in my opinion.

Hey, rick! Is the Monogram 1/48 SabreDog (the one with Dennis the menace decals and a tractor) really worth it? I’m honestly thinking about buying this one next… when i have money, of course! [;)]

I second shikes on that question. I have one and am curious about pit falls.

Great site…thanks!

Dan

shrikes and cassibill, yes the Monogram kit is worth it, except don’t expect to use the Dennis the Menace decals as the reds on the decal sheet are waaaay off and highly inaccurate. There are some excellent after market decals available however. As far as the kit goes, it is very well molded and nicely detailed. It’s a very straight forward build with no significant vices. If you want the later version drag chute, then seek out the Revell/Germany kit which is identical except for the drag chute and decals. Sadly, the decals in both kits are the only real letdown.

HMMMmmm…what color of red should it be. I’m good at freehanding. I’ve already got the Rev/mon kit, $11 and Mom paid, I wasn’t passing that up. Should be fun once I get to it. Maybe once I finish the stuff I’ve got started, I’ll do my own poll of what to do next. That will be what, 17 builds away…

cassibill, take a look at the box art and compare it to the decal sheet. Unless they have corrected it after I bought mine, you will find all of the reds on the sheet to be a very dark, almost maroon, shade. They should be a bright Insignia red as depicted on the cover. Touching up Dennis the Menaces’ pants would be fairly easy, but the rest of it would be a bigger problem than I would want to tackle.

Thanks Rick …I’ll check out those kits… Hey have you try using that Alclad paint ??[:0]

Thanks Rick. Is the F14 kit the same way or is it supposed to be maroon?( The tomcatters.)

jilopez, Yeah, Alclad II is probably the best paint available today for NMF aircraft. Just be sure to follow the priming instructions that come with it, and be ready for the $8.00 a bottle price tag.

cassibill, I don’t have a Monogram Tomcat so can’t say for sure. If the red on the National Insignia looks Maroon, then chances are all of the reds are wrong. If the red on the Insignia looks OK, then chances are are all are OK.

Rick: Fantastic! I didn’t really want to use the kit decals anyway because i saw some Philippine Air Force decals for the Sabre Dog at a LHS a while back… I do hope they still have the kit the next time around!

Courtney: Drat. My mom has never bought me a kit and the last time my dad bought me one was when i was 15…

Hehehe… what DO you have just sitting there?!? And tell me honestly: how long have you been working on your dog handler? [;)]

Courtney: Drat. My mom has never bought me a kit and the last time my dad bought me one was when i was 15… Mom has bought most of my kits with about 10 exceptions

That way you could’ve had a battleship duel in the tub!! [:p] Hmmm… Been seeing the pastor’s boy, have we?!? [}:)] [;)] [angel]
