F-4U-1A Corsair

Hello guys! This is Tamiya’s F-4U-1D that I’m backdating to a -1A. I added a True Details cockpit (Total waste of time, kit’s cockpit is far superior). To deal with the panel, I used Mike Grant instrument decals. I think they look pretty sharp! I decided to put the flaps in the retracted position, as this is how most photos of this big bird on the ground look. It will be painted in the tri-color scheme. All it needs now is a gloss coat and wash, then I can button her up and get on with painting. Questions and comments welcome!

Now you see it…

Now you don’t !!!

I Used Mike Grant instrument decals to cover up the holes in the True Details cockpit.

Looking real good so far. Keep us posted.

Regards, Rick

The cockpit and engine look great!

What are the differences between the -A and the -D?

Wow! The color and detail on that radial engine are outstanding! I’m excited to see more![8D]

Me to what is the difference between the A’s nad the D’s – and also nice work on the engine

Great looking build Radmax. Is this 1/48 scale? This is the plane I like the most that I don’t have in my stash. Gotta get one soon.

THanks for posting and looking forward to seeing more.

Steve

Sharp looking Corsair, especially like the engine detail. [tup]

Thanks for the comments, guys!

The differences in the -1A and -1D are pretty subtle. They use a slightly different canopy, the -1A didn’t have underwing bomb racks or zero-length rocket stubs, and they used a shorter tail wheel. I believe also the -1A had some fuel tanks in the leading edges of the wings which were deleted when the bombracks came about.

Kielers, this is indeed the 1/48th scale kit. For the most part it goes together like a dream. The only problem areas are the trailing edge of the wings. Doesn’t match up too well. But it’s a great kit, I highly recommend it!

The engine and the pit are awesome. More pics I demand more pics.
