F-4 questions

If they are the full set that has the intake side and goes all the way to the engines, no cutting on the kit is needed. Just cut off the excess resin and they will just drop in. If it is the short set with just the forward part of the intake, throw them away. The fit is very bad and will take a lot of sanding, cutting, swearing, filling and frustration to get them to fit. I have several sets that I will never use. A waste of money.

Unfortunatly they are the “short” ones. Oh well. I plan on getting the Flightpath set for it and it comes with fod covers so that is solved…Harv

If you are going to use the intake plugs then you might want to install gear down locks and safety pins. I don’t know what type of load out you are planning but if you go for the BLU-27’s only the shoulder stations on the TER would be loaded. The bottom station would remain empty. For CBU’s again only the shoulder stations would be loaded. For MK-20’s you can load all three stations on the TER but most of the time only the shoulder stations would be loaded. They did fly with six loaded on some missions.

For safety pins, you would need one for each munition loaded. The safety pins would be on the TER. There would also be a safety pin on the pylon to safe the TER. One on each 370 tank pylon only on the left side of the pylon. Two safety pins for the AIM-7’s, one on the missile and one under a small panel by each missile. A safety pin for the gun pod with the streamer sticking out of the right aux air door. You would also need a safety pin for the tail hook. Safety pins for the seat and a safety lock for the canopy actuators.

Other covers would be on the PITOT tube located on the vert stab as well as a cover for the stab bellows probe.

I’ll see if I can find a good reference photo showing the location of the safety pins.

Another load out you might consider. If they are going after river traffic, a gun pod loaded on the centerline and rocket pods loaded on the inboard pylons.

Berney, thanks once again. Very interesting stuff. I know about RBF tags. Pulled my share. But I did not know about pylon ones on left side only. Good call.Still no sure about load out. River patroll sounds different. I like different…Harv
