F-4 phantoms

have you ever realized that the phantoms cost a lot more than other jets in 1/48 scale?
now I,m mmoving on to 1/72.
any good and cheap recommendations?

i think there still dearer [(-D][(-D][(-D],
try revell

Hey Jin,

I’m sure you heard the expression, you get what you pay for. Some kits are
worth the expense. The f-4 is a sweeet build. Try the Navy Hasegawa at
www.internethobbies.com. You can pick it up for about $30. I would build the f-4
in tamiya or the newer hasegawa kits…

Hasegawa has an assortment of Phabulous Phantoms, several of which are extremely good. The Testors/Italeri RF-4C is good also.

I think the Mono F-4C/D Phantom II that I built was was just great. Of course, that was 20+ years ago (no kiddin’!) and I do not know how much one would cost now. - Calvin

The Hasegawa series of 1/72 kits is awesome and Fujimi makes some really excellent British Phantoms in this scale. Also , if you can find them, the Monogram kits are really nice , too, as they are scaled down from the 48 scale kits. Great cockpit detail! If you don’t mind raised panel lines, then I would recommend these kits as you can usually find them pretty cheap on ebay.

I was at the LHS today and was dismayed to see no 72nd scale Phantoms (Hasegawa anyway) … I couldn’t find anything I wanted so I just ended up walking out with the Academy 72nd T-6 ROKAF, and the A-37B also by Academy. Oh well… maybe I’ll get the squadron flyer out and just order some.

whoa my violin teacher has a monogram Phantom and was thinkin about givin it to me.
hmm, what luck!

Obviously, you’ve never purchased the 1/48th Hasegawa F/A-18 Hornet. Here in Indy, they go for around $50 - $55 (saw one place that had 'em for $64!!!), while I can get the 1/48th Hasegawa Phantom II for $30 - $45. Robbery, I tell you; just plain robbery. [:(!][:(!]

Hasegawa’s 1/48 F-4G, I’ve seen for 30 bucks- which isn’t that bad. The Monogram re-box of the Has Phantom 2 is a steal at 15 bucks at my LHS.

Revell are currently selling Hasegawa F-4 moulds in Revell boxes with weapons included for at least half the price of the Hasegawa kits. Look out for them as the hasegawa kits don’t include the weapons.
Hope this helps,

Darren.

Thats why I always build in 1/72… Cheaper to buy, and alot more room to showcase… The reason I say this, is that I sometimes get silly ideas… Like when I built my first Japanese F-4J. I then had to collect every single Jet fighter used by the JASDF since it was formed… I have since had to then build 2 new shelves, and I am still waiting for my T-33 to arrive, so I can finally finish off the collection… I would like to try something in 1/48, but I am still deciding what… I have done a 1/35 Cobra, and although I love it, its simply too big, once put with a dio… Anyways if the question was whats a good 1/72 F-4. Then Hasegawa cant be beat… Cheap too… Fujimi makes a wonderfull Okinawan JASDF F-4 that is also great, but a little more expencive! Can help you out with both…

AMT/Ertl also had a 1/48 F-4G with Desert Storm markings and weapons for about $12 new. Of course it is OOP but if you see it on eBay or something, it is worth getting.
