F-4 Phantom Resin Cockpit

Hey guys,

I just recently purchased this kit, and have heard the cockpit detail is somewhat lacking. Can anyone suggest a good cockpit resin set to go with this model. I found a cockpit update made by Aires, but it seems to be for the E/F model of Phantom’s. I’m not sure if there was any difference in the J/S model or the E/F model, so before I dropped the cash on the set I wanted to make sure.

Here’s a link to the kit http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=HE07206

and here’s a link to the Aires E/F cockpit http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=EA4126

Anyone have any other suggestions if this cockpit is not compatible?

Thanks for all the help.

DO NOT get the Aries set… that set is for the F-4E/F ONLY. If your going to build the F-4J Mig Killer get the Legend Productions set for the Hasagawa F-4J. http://www.www-legend.co.kr . I have the Revell-Monogram F-4J kit and the Legend resin cockpit set for that. There are major differnces between the F-4J/S and the E/F cockpits.

Hey berny, where you are you???

Talk to berny!!! He is the expert here on the F-4 Phantom II.

Sweet man, thanks for the reply.

That’s why I figured I’d ask the experts around here because I was pretty sure I didn’t have a clue what I was talking about.

Thanks again!

One more thing I need to point out. Do not use the gray walkways along the intakes… if your building Showtime 100 the walkways were flat black.

Here is an artists picture of the actual Phantom.

AirMaster,

Thanks so much for the information. I confirmed what you said about the grey walkways through an actual real life photograph of Showtime 112 (also a member of VF-96 on the USS Constellation) which also had the black walk way. I also found this…

So thanks again, and any other information will be much appreciated as I’m not very accustomed to non WWII fighters.

Ole,

The ironic thing about Showtime 100 is it was not Driscol and Cunningham’s Phantom. The plane they flew on May 10th, 1972 was actually the CAG plane. The F-4J that Driscol and Cunningham normally flew was plane NG112, tail code 7257. On that day they got 3 MiG’s they were assigned plane NG100.

Here is another tid bit of information you might want to look into later. Revell had a 1/32 scale F-4J that came with decals for VF-96 and the marking represented Driscol and Cunningham’s “normal” plane NG112-7257. I built that kit way back in the early 90’s. Not sure if it’s still in production but it was a very nice kit to build. I may still have pictures of it, I’ll have to look around.

Just an FYI.
