yep, i’ve been given a commission for a vietnam-era F-4, and believe it or not, i’ve never built one (!) so,while my “patron” sneaks photos from her dad for specifics, i’m hoping for some recommendations on a good kit to use — any thoughts? i intend to show some open access panels, hoping for decent wheel well/cockpit detail and so forth, and might go for select after-market goodies, too. how’bout it? which 1/48th scale kit(s) would YOU suggest? thanx for your thoughts, folks!
Well, not knowing which mark Phantom you are building puts us at a disadvantage. Is it an Air Force F-4C/D or E, or RF-4C, or a Navy F-4B or S, or a Marine RF-4B? Get the idea? But overall, I think the majority will agree with me that the old Hasegawa series of Phantoms remain the standard for that scale. You just can’t go wrong. I’ve built a number of them, also as commisions, never, come to think of it, built a Phantom just for my own fun. But, seeing the pleased look on an old pilot’s face when he’s presented with a really well-built, identical copy of his own airplane, well, you can’t put a price on the feeling you get from that. So, full steam ahead, and let us know which Phantom you are doing so we can give you advice on paint schemes and AM parts for the thing.

Just like Tom says, Hasagawa is the only game in town for Phantoms.

The 1/72 and 1/48 scale Hasagawa F-4s are wonderful BUT GO AHEAD and pull off a great suprise by building one of the 1/32 scale Tamiya F-4s. SIMPLY IMPRESSIVE. Best wishes for an enjoyable build and please share your completed photos.
Have you seen the new F-4B from Hasegawa?? It looks pretty nice to me. Here’s a link link to the FSM review.
