F-22s at Hill AFB

I’m getting too old, I remember when the F-15 was the new kid on the block and now it’s the F/A-22!

They have been flying over my house the past couple of days and the one thing that strikes me is the sound of the engines. I can’t say what it is but, it’s like a musical note at some power settings or angles to the engines.

hey DICE;
I’ve watched 2 take off at Andrews after Gen Jumper’s retirement ceramony, and WOW what a show they did about 1/4 the roll out for take off and then went to 37K ft within about 15 seconds after airbourne, talk about climb for time, and they are very impressive

My wife grew up in Ogden, right next to Hill AFB, so she’ll really get a kick out of this story (I printed it for her). She fondly remembers the F-16s flying over her house all the time. :slight_smile:

Here’s a couple of pics I took of the F-22s through the fence. One I took through the fence and the other I stuck the camera lens through one of the holes and zoomed as much as I could. I had a very interesting experience yesterday, I was walking down the flight line when I heard a strange noise but one I knew. When I turned around I saw a Phantom (F-4E) coming down the runway. As it passed I could see it was still painted in the SEA scheme. The Phantom is here supporting the F-22s in some way.

I thought to myself cool, not everyday you see a phantom. About that time I hear an F-16 in full blower taking off and my eyes are drawn to it. As it passes I can see it unpainted and sporting it metal finish. It runs the length of the runway, pulls vertical, and climbs (quickly) to around 30,000 feet. It then turns west and does a mach run towards the Utah test range. Not more than 5 minutes later here comes a couple of F-22s taking off.

In a 10 minute time-span I saw a classic from the past, a classic from the present, and the future of air combat pass right in front of me! I thought to myself…self…some people pay to see this ****** and here you are getting paid to watch your own little airshow….life is good sometime!

Beautiful!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

How many F/A-22’s are out there?

The F-4 could be a target drone being used for radar calibration…did it have a box on the left intake and spine, and a bunch of funny antennas on it?

Dice,
Can I post these on our clubs site?
Would like to see pics of that Phantom and metalic Viper.
Wish I lived a little further north.

Nice pictures, thanks for posting.

Man that’s awesome Dice…thanks for sharing the pics and the story with us! [8D][:D]

That was one of the first thing’s I noticed when I heard them up close for the first time… They’re kind of reminiscent of the F-4… They make some of those weird whistling/howling type noises at certain power settings and attitudes.
