I just saw that story messing around on the 5th AF website (dont ask me why). Sounds weird how he just dropped off the radar screen. Hopefully he did eject, but its possible hes part of the wreckage too

Latest news is that the AF is converting from search and rescue to a search and recovery mode. They have found life support items at the crash site meaning the pilot didn’t eject.
One they found the wreckage and seconldy, that would be a very bad idea in this day and age…!!
If he made it out, a transmitter should have been activated… And as mentioned above, looks as if he never had a chance

Not funny dude, this is real life… I am shocked that happened…
I know its real life. I deal with real life and real death everyday. I have developed a warped sense of humor as such. Dude. I am sorry to hear that a pilot was lost along with their multimillion dollar ride. But it happens. High performance military aircraft crash from time to time and often kill their pilot and crew. Nothing shocking there. That is the nature of military avaition. Unfortunate but true.
i agree with stik, while this is unfortunate, its a part of military life, if he wasnt prepared to die for his country, he wouldnt have signed up. When it comes to things like this you have to make slightly morbid jokes, you cant take it too seriously or you crack.
I second that… When one signs up to serve his/her Country, one automatically knows that they are putting their life on the line for the safety of others…
So there is this somewhat dark humor that evolves… Military life is a serious duty but you have to find ways to lighten things up a bit or else crack…
It’s a good life and I’d do it again in a heart beat…!!

The sad fact of this incident is that it was never supposed to be possible for this aircraft to impact terrain. The aircraft’s multiple computers are supposed to take control from the pilot in the case of an imminent impact.
The F-22 has situational awareness through GPS, inertial guidance and terrain mapping and continually compares its GPS coordinates with a built in 3D map of the area. If the primary system dies there are two other back-ups that can take over.
There is probably alot about this that won’t come to light because of security concerns but someone screwed up badly for this to happen. Or maybe its just possible that you don’t get much for $450 million these days.

Don’t asume that because an aircraft went down, someone screwed up. An aircraft is made up of electronic, mechanical and structural parts. It could have been any number of problems that caused the jet to go down. I have seen more than my share of crashes in my time in the USAF. Some caused by pilot error, mechanical error and other causes such as weather. The majority were mechanical failure of some electronic, mechanical, or structural part. Mechanics do not have X-ray vision that can see internal cracks or a burned electronic parts.
Also could’ve been complete catastrophic failure. Doesn’t happen often, but it does happen. Could also explain why emergency systems were still with the aircraft.
