F-22 and CV-22 Paint Schemes

I have noticed that both the CV-22 and the F-22 have a semi-metallic
paint scheme. It isn’t really semi-gloss as it seems to shimmer in the
sun light. I saw both of these aircraft at airshows and have seen
several pix in magazines.

Does any one have any idea what color and/or techniques should be used to paint these colors on a 1/72 scale kit?

For
that matter, is any company planning on issuing a new kit of the F-22
now that it is operational in two squadrons and a third will be
operational by the end of 2007? Or how about a new CV-22.

The answer to this second part is … Yes! Revell of Germany is supposed to be issuing a NEW MOLD F-22A in 1:72 some time around October 2007. Frank

I noticed a V-22 at a local air show and it had a two toned metallic scheme. My digital camera had issues with consistency producing the color in varying photos (white balance?). The paint had some texture to it up close. As for finding the paint, I remember that Poly S came out with a set of metallic acrylics in the 1990’s and it looked similar to the paint on the V-22 I saw. Not sure if they still make them. I can remember the paint seemed to be unusable back then as it looked nothing like true metal. But I think it would fit for these schemes.

Here is a link to a great article that should be just what you are looking for:

I’ve heard at least with the V-22 that the new “shiny” paint is some kind of experiemental IR suppresive paint.
