F-16CJ kit question (ordnance)

Hello all,
I am looking at purchasing a 1/48th scale Hasegawa kit of the F-16CJ.
I am wondering if any of you out there who have experience building this kit could tell me what types of under-wing stores are included.

As a side note, I have two spare JDAM bombs from an F-22 kit. Are JDAMs compatible with an F-16C? If so, are there any airframe or avionics upgrades needed to deploy a JDAM, and would National Guard units be equipped to deploy them or only active-duty? Do they need a laser-targeting pod? Sorry for lots of questions, but thanks for any help [:)]
Thanks

Doesn’t need laser designation, its strictly GPS guided (99% sure on that, anybody know 100% sure?) Probably not deployed on reserve birds though (again 99%, anybody refute?).

The basic F-16 has been certified to drop 2,000 lb and 1,000 lb JDAMs for quite some time. It was just recently certified to drop the 500 lb version. Any model of the F-16 can drop them. Pilots would need to qualify on each specific type of ordnance. I find it difficult to believe that we would send pilots over to Iraq or Afghanistan that were not qualified to drop the various types of ordnance being used in theater.

The F-16C from Block 30 (Nat’l Guard) through the Block 52 can carry the JDAM. The Block 30 and Block 40 versions are typically asigned to the close air support and strike roles (The Block 30 can use the LITENING laser pod, and the Block 40/42 are typically designated F-16CG and are LANTIRN capable). The Block 50/52 versions are designated F-16CJ, and TYPICALLY are assigned to the suppression of air defence (wild weasle) role. Although they are capable of carrying JDAM and LGBs, their typically load-out is a HTS pod (HARM TARGETING SYSTEM) at the right intake station, a ECM pod on the center-line, and a pair of AGM-88 HARMs (along with AIM-9/AIM-120 for self defence). If you want to be really “cutting edge”, the Air Force is know working on the R7 upgrade for their F-16CJs. Part of the hardware chages include moving the HTS pod to the opposite (Left) side of the intake, and incorporating the new SNIPER -XR pod on the right intake station. This would allow the jet to utilize both HARM and GPS type weapons. Have fun [:D]Frank

Wow, thanks for all the info, guys!
No, yardbird, I wouldn’t question the quals of our pilots, I was just wondering if their aircraft could carry the munition.[;)] I know that sometimes the guard and reserves aren’t outfitted with the latest and greatest gizmos.
FJLOMM, great stuff. Let me know if you ever are building a Supercobra, I’ll try to share my knowledge, lol. All I know about the Wisconsin ANG (115th Fighter Wing) is that they use F-16Cs that have “large-mouth” intakes. I presume the Hasegawa F-16CJ kit is equivalent??
Also, still wondering if anyone could tell me what ordnance actually comes inside the kit.

Hasegawa’s F-16CJ is a great kit! I converted mine to a F-16CG using Hasegawa’s Weapons Kit 8 (LGBs and targeting pods). Mine’s decked out in 31st WG/Aviano decals. Wisconsin’s F-16’s are Block 30 and use the LITENING targeting pods. With just a bit of tweaking, Hasegawa’s LANTIRN Targeting pod could easily be a LITENING. Externally, they are very similar. I couldn’t vouch for the exact dimensions, however. Hope that helps. By the way, thanks for the offer on the SuperCobra. I’ve toyed with the idea of doing Helos, but Im pretty much a plane guy. I’ll let you know if I make the switch[;)] Frank

FJLOMM (Frank)

I have read your last posts here, thanks for the great info. [tup]
However, I one question … Above you mention Air National Guard F-16C fly a block 30, is that the only block type they Fly?

( [8D] FYI - I ask because a Mile High Militia Colorado ANG F-16C out of Buckley AFB 140thTFW (120th FS) is on my list, thanks to FoxOne Decals [;)])

Appreciate the help
[C=:-)]

Iron Chef, The ANG fly mostly the Block 30 F-16Cs. There are a few units that are still dedicated to “air defence” and fly the Blk 25. Most of these will transition to the Blk 30. The South Carolina ANG is the only ANG unit that fly the F-16CJ (blk 52). Ohio, Iowa and Oklahoma ANGs do fly the Block 42 F-16. By the way, Colorado flys the Blk 30.

Hey AH1Wsnake, you asked what comes in the Hasegawa kit. It has a couple of drop tanks, Sidewinders, AMRAAMS (!!!) and a pair of AGM-88 HARMs[8D]. Hope that helps. Frank

AHA! Finally! My final question is answered, lol
Thanks, Frank.[tup]
I think I’ll save the HARMs and instead hang the JDAMs on my WIANG bird. Thanks again for all the great info.

It always helps me to browse around the photo section at www.af.mil. They have subsections for individual aircraft, and lots of photos of F-16s in action (CJs included).
