CAN YOU SMELL WHAT THE JIMMYS COOKING!!???
Peace, Jimmy
FYI, The F-15C I am working on is 1/48.
Well…I’m still waiting on the Aires cockpit, and as I said I couldn’t resist painting up the kit pit. The kit parts are really pretty decent. What I wanted to experiment with was using a transparent prism ribbon for the CRT screens. This stuff actually changes color as you rotate it to a light source. Purple, red, green, gold…you name it. I don’t know how accurate it is, but it looks kinda cool. The ribbon is translucent and I applied it over a base coat of black. The dominent colors though, are green/black. I don’t know if I’m going to use this stuff on the actual model yet. I would be more carefull to get a better fit if I decided to use it. Guess I kinda rushed it.
What do you guys think?
Jerry

Jerry, that looks real good. I still haven’t started as I am trying to get over this never ending 67 Chevelle. I am so wore out with this car, but I can’t set it down as it is not for me. I am so stoked to get my F-15’s started. I am using the Aires exhaust set on the E, and the kit parts I think I am going to try and make resin copies of for the rest of my C’s and the D will probably be OOB. I am tinkering with the idea of getting at least seats for 6 of them. We’ll see if I have the funds. I am also thinking of making copies of the ordinance I have, We’ll see. Well here are a few pics of the “E” at the Andrews air show this year.

That second picture is awesome Jerry.I seen someone over at ARC building the Academy 1/32 Hornet that had a similiar set-up on his CRT screens.I e-mailed him asking what he used but I never got a response.I think you might have exposed his secret.I like your idea, because it gives the cockpit some ‘gotcha’ factor without to much work.I want to make my screens look a little more interesting than just basic black.Do you mind if I try out this idea on my 1/32 ‘E’?.I try not to be a copycat on other peoples detailing techniques but that ribbon really makes the CRT’s leap out at you.Cool stuff no doubt.Did you pick up that ribbon at some party store?
As for me…I’m working on the bang seats myself.I spent most of the day modifying the Black Box seats that came with the ‘E’ pit. There was some sorta box molded to the left side of the seat that I couldn’t find in any of my reference pic’s,so off they went.I also had to modify some canopy breakers from the Tamiya seats to fit the BB seats,as BB did not supply them. The canopy breaker is the sharp object at the top of the seat. Here’s a pic of one:

Right now I’m waiting for my primer coat to dry and I have a little sanding to do and then I will shoot my flat black and begin the detail painting.I will try to post pics either tonight or tomorrow.
Those are some nice pics there Will.I guess we were posting at the same time…how much more work on the Chevelle before your done?
What’s everyone else up too?

Go ahead and give it a shot. I saw this stuff at a Hallmark store and the old light bulb came on. This stuff is really wierd. The difference in light reflection makes this stuff go crazy. From some angles, it’s black, then red, then green…you get the idea.
You can buy this stuff by the roll…but I figured there’s plenty of material in a bow. $1.79

Cheers,
Jerry
I have to paint the black stripes around the outside slap the windows in, squeeze it together, paint the grille and rear black, and put the accessories in the engine bay. Then I’ll be done, I should have it done by Saturday, and maybe I can start my planes on Sunday eve. or Monday. Either way I believe I will at least start on Monday.
Well if i keep cutting ill never finsh this bird so ill say im done"for now" with the blade and scribe.
Things that have been cut out are all #2 engine bay pnls, pnl 85r amad/hydro bay, pc-1, pc-2, util, j.f.s serv pnls, j.f.s. duct, door 45 gun door, and door 154L the com door. I was thinkin of opening 123R ,138R,142R, and doing the stab, flap and aileron actuator’s but i think this is good for now .
Hay Zone, that seat is all types of wrong allmost all E’S have been retrofitted with black wool seat cousions,a strap is missing"behind the cousion" and i dont see the seewars setup eather im thinkin thats a egress dummy seat put in for the air show so no cive takes a last fast ride.

P.S. Wow them sum dirty stuts on that stateside mudhen Dcc must have been at a party the night before[|)]… Nice work jerry looks like i could jump im and do a m-bit in that pit![tup]
Peace, Jimmy
Thanks for the heads up Jerry.I guess I’ll be going to Hallmark in the next couple of days.I also just noticed that you live up in NE Ohio. Are you in the Cleveland area? I am in Ashland every wed./thurs. killing time.I drive a semi and I pick up loads out of there and bring them back to OKC.
Thats cool… I couldn’t wait to get started either.
Thanks for the tip Jimmy[tup] I’ll see if I can find some other pics to use…but so far all the pics of seen don’t look much different.Do you have some pics that show a flyable seat? Thanks in advance.[:)]
Anyhoo…I’m going to get crackin’ at detailing my seats and maybe even throw the basecoat on the 'pit today.I’ll post pics later today.
Later on…

I live close to Canton…bout an hour south of the dirty city.
Jerry

Well I sit here tonight with mixed emotions. I’m happy cause the Aires cockpit set is in. I’m PO’d cause there’s stuff busted off all over the place. It’s a shame you pay almost 40 bucks for after market goods and they come damaged. Why doesn’t Aires get it. A little bit of bubble wrap would fix it. All 4 seat rails are broken, both ejection handles, 1 seat bracket, both throttles and a small peice of hose detail. All rolling around at the bottom of the baggy. [banghead]
I’ve got some damage control to attend to.[:(!]
Jerry
I feel your pain Jerry. I have the BB 'pit and the seat rails were busted on mine also. But the kicker is I’m not so sure I didn’t do it myself.Same rail on both seat got busted. That is pretty much why I havn’t posted pics yet.I’m having trouble making them look presentable.I have half a mind to buy a couple from CAM or Meteor just so I don’t have to mess with it anymore.Kinda hard to glue something that has the surface area of a razorblade edge. But other than that things are going OK just sloooooooww… Hopefully I will have a seat completed before tomorrow evening.I will post pics then.
Remember…it’s just a model.

Dang Jerry that sucks are you able too repair it? Just rember even with the real aircraft we all ways got hosed up parts onece we got a whole rt stab"think price of your house" direct from depo while i worked in phase full of water had too have a scrap metal troop drill a bunch of holes in it too drain it then he had too put it undr heat lamps for a week. Made the jet role a week late but the key is it did role out ,so fix it up she will look good in the long run and ya i would email Aires or who ever ya got it from and see what they can do maby they can send ya a replacement.
P.s.zone i dug out my old Crewchiefs hand book and scaned a pg on the seat for ya if ya want more i can scan just say the word http://s76.photobucket.com/albums/j39/eaglekeeper28/?action=view¤t=scan.jpg Peace, Jimmy
Thanks for the concern and reassurement guys. Fact is…this is the third time I’ve gotton Aires parts that were F-U’d. Maybe I will email’m …don’t think it’ll make any difference though. It’s odd…every ejection seat I’ve ever purchased from Quickboost was perfect and they’re supposed to be the same company. Too bad they don’t make F-15E seats.
Anyhoo…in the mean time…“I shall endeavor to persevere”
Jerry
I’m started! Since my build is a ‘commission’ for a co-worker to present to his wife, the timing of this GB was perfect for me. Serendipity, you might think. I had the kit before this GB was announced, and had started gathering parts/paint, but hadn’t truly started it until this weekend.
I am tracking progress here, mostly for the co-worker so he can check up on me.
So far, I have the avionics scratchbuilding and painting done, as well as the office.

Hey Dragonfly, those screenies of your CRT/MFDs are very nice. If you could find a green bow, instead of a rainbow style, I bet it would really come out well. That gives me an awesome thing to try on the 1/32 F-16CJ that I will be doing in the near future! Great job.
Yeah…it looks cool but I don’t think it’s very realistic. This was just an experiment. I’ve got some other things I’m gonna try. In the mean time…I’m dry fitting, adjusting fit, grinding, sanding and fixing damage to the Aires office. Not alot of fun, but important stuff nonetheless.
Welcome to the GB Chimera!!
Jerry
Ok, I have decided to put the Chevelle on the back burner and finish it as I get to the color I need on My Eagle’s. I have primed all 7 models and I am starting on the body first. I am going to wait on the pits so if I get some aftermarket seats I can put them in without too much problem. We will see how this goes and I’ll post progress pictures as I go.
