I know that 14D’s have an actual HUD inside the cockpit but is the center windscreen still tinted blue or not?
My references all show a blue tinted wind screen.
Good luck!
Dave
Is the Hud also tinted, or just he windscreen?
Also, does any aftermarket co. make this hud? PE or resin?
The Squadron F-14 Walkaround has a picture of the F-14D hud and it looks clear (at least from the pilot’s view). The windscreen is very lightly tinted, but it too is hard to see from the pilot’s seat. Externally it is pretty obvious.
As for aftermarket parts I am not sure, that depends on scale. I know Eduard makes several photo-etched F-14D detail sets (1/48 & 1/72) and one of them probably has the HUD. I know True Details used to make a US aircraft HUD set as well, but I am not sure if they still produce it.
Hope that helps
Well why do some people tint the windscreen green instead of blue? Photos show blue and insructions say blue (hasegawa). Check out the F-14’s at http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/ and you’ll see what i mean.
I can’t comment on why other people choose green over blue, but the pictures I saw on that site are hard to read…they could be a blue-green color. All the pictures I have seen show a blueish tint so that is what I would use. Just be careful not to over do it, they aren’t tinted very heavily.
The HUD is clear and the centre windscreen is blue. How strongly you can see the tint in real life depends from which angle you are looking at the aircraft. But on a kit, a medium transparent blue is the way to go.
