Hey Fellow Modelers…
Am about to start building the Revell 1/148 kit and was wondering what colors are appropriate for the cockpit interior: side walls, instrument panels, etc. I got the seat pretty well taken care of.
Thanks all, John
I believe that it is Dark Gull Grey FS 36231 below the sill and black above except for the canopy framing which would be the same as the cockpit.
Dark Gull Grey is the correct color, as far as references go. However, scale effect seems to take over; I have seen a lot of models that appear to be “Light Gull Grey” and that seems to “look” better. I’ve done Dark Gull Grey in all my cockpits and it doesn’t quite look right - I’m doing my next one in Light Gull Grey.
That is one horrible fitting kit.
I have one too with PE parts to go with it. My only problem is that the panel lines and rivets are raised and I want to scribe them first. That gets really tedious when the lines start to curve and get complicated. I fear for my deteriorating eyesight. That’s what keeps me from starting it.
Joel:
Splurge and buy a 1/48 Hasegawa kit. Engraved (recessed) panel lines are but one of the great features of these kits. Quite a bit of filling and sanding for a Hasegawa kit, but the end product is amazing. If you can, go the extra mile and get either an Aires or a Black Box cockpit, too.
I agree that you should use a lighter color of gray than the “Dark Gull Gray”. I think the actuall color is “Aircraft Gray” but that usually only comes in a gloss and is a pain to work with. “Lt. Gull Gray” is the way to go. I have a 1/48 Hasegawa kit that I haven’t built, but I agree with MA Cooke, it’s worth the money!
