F-14B Cockpit

[banghead][banghead][banghead] This is for all you guys who are bigger F-14 buffs than I am. I’m building the F-14B UPGRADE and don’t know what the instrument panels look like. I can only find ref photos of the A or D but not the B. Are the B panels somewhere in between? I want to build as accurate a model as possible so any help would be greatly appreciated.[:)]

The difference between the F-14A & B models is only the engines. In fact, the B is sometimes refered to as the F-14A+. They just replaced the under powered Pratt & Whitney engines with some GE models. So, in short, the F-14B has the same cockpit as the F-14A. There may have been some software upgrades and maybe a switch or two moved around, but I don’t think there were any changes made that you could notice in a model.

Thanks for your input caine. What you say is mostly true but in '96 the F-14B gained LANTIRN and a ground attack capability and I’m pretty sure this added some multi-function displays. Still, all I have are vague descriptions and nothing to look at. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to go with the kit 'pit and hope nobody notices.

Here ya go if I can get the links to work for ya.

This one is the front seat

This two are the rear

Hope this helps

Paul, you have instantly become THAT GUY! Thank you so much![tup][tup][:D]

Interesting… I don’t think I have ever seen the side stick in the RIO position. Is that for controling the LANTIRN pod? It looks like that is where you MFD was added if that is the case.

Caine, yes, that side stick is for controlling the LANTIRN pod. That’s why the MFD was added.

Glad I could help. Good luck with the build. Can’t wait to see some pics of her.
