I’m looking for the best F-14 TOMCAT kit out there.
Can anyone give me some kit numbers ?

Theres really no such thing as “The Best” Every kit is going to need some work, and at the end of the day a good modeler can pick up 5 different kits of the same aircraft and have them all look identical when finished. In saying that, try modelling madness, or Cyber Modeler both very good review sites.

The Hasegawa kit is the most detailed. The Revell/Monogram kits are a close second and best value.

Italeri has the Cats in 48 as well.

The Academy kit is said to be based on the R/M original and shares a similar breakdown, but is “improved” in some areas. The Fujimi kit is a relic from the late 70’s and is best left on the shelf.
The Hasegawa kit is a challenge simply for the sheer number of parts, but will reward a skilled/patient builder.
My favourite is the Hasegawa, but agree it is probably a bit more challenging than the Revell/Monogram.
Hasegawa is also my favourite F-14 in 1/72.

I’ll add another vote for Hasegawa. Definitely not a shake the box kit, but offers the best detail of any Tomcat out there.

Right, Tamiya just did a 1/32 that has been around for about 30 years.
FWIW, I just got my Trumpeter 1/32 F-14D delivered. Looks fantastic in the box. Just need to build a shelf big enought to hold it.

Have you built the Tamiya 1/32? How do they compare?
I have been thinking of getting the 1/32 Tamiya for a while (just need a spare $240), but now Trumpeter have released theirs, i might wait for a few reviews/comparisons to come out. Will also need to compare price, haven’t seen the Trumpeter in shops over here just yet, but interested to see what it will cost.
