Not going back any earlier than this build, this was finished around 2024 late to 2025. Been my second last model of its type to be built together with my SPAD much later on.
This model proved to be a good challenge having the need to paint sub assemblies, and careful attachment of the landing gear bay doors.
Wings can be positioned freely as needed due to a internal gear assembly already built into the models design layout.
Pitot tube however, always seems to find a way to get snagged and then fall off ![]()
Nice job! Tomcat is one of my alltime favorites - I lived very close to Miramar so I saw them quite a bit. Sundowners lived at Miramar for years - catching livery. That loadout of Phoenix and Sparrows sure looks lethal. I couldn’t imagine do gear doors on a 1/72 scale bird
I have a hard enough time in 1/48
Excellent work, looks great.
Every time I see one of you 1/72 guys turn out something like this, I get a little jealous of how much less display space you need. I keep telling myself I’m committed to 1/48, but then I look at my display cabinet and start questioning my life choices. ![]()
Very clean Tomcat. I actually like that you didn’t weather it—it looks like a well-kept aircraft rather than feeling like something is missing. I’m curious, how did you paint it? Airbrush, rattle cans, or brush painted?
Thankyou S.Hollowell
Hello Samphoto,
Ok well firstly, naturally, yes these 1/72s do indeed take alot less space, but are still delicate as usual as per subject. Its the reason now why I am transferring to figures in the mean time.
This model was intended to be built cleanly yes, I use the Olympos HP-250 C Airbrush with a piston drum type air compressor from Taiwan. (Compressor no longer owned as of late)
Thankyou Keavedog,
Did you know they only retired the Tom cat aircraft from the US Navy in 2006?
Those Phoenix Missles, they have the sound of a rocket taking off from a launch pad incase you didnt know ![]()
Good times.
