F-117A US Flag sceme finish pics

should be done late this afternoon,it’s raining here so i have the day off, more pics later

Very cool. Amazing how good that looks on just about anything.

DITO Is that a decal or did ya paint it .

Very nice work on the F-117. That is impressive. It certainly looks like paint. If so, could you give us a quick description of how you did the masking, especially the stars?

Darwin, O.F. [alien]

a loaded question,it was supposed to be masked and decaled…i ordered the cutting edge set for it and used the black magig masks(paint the bottom white, then mask and spray red) painted the front blue

when it came time to decal the stars they were so thin that they weren’t usable,so i went back to the masks and masked the stars out and AB’d them as well…so in a nut shell, all painted

the rest of the plane is very basic, because it’s going to be a cieling hanger, but i’ll take a few more pics in a minute and post them as an update in this thread

all done now and ready to hang

OUTSTANDING!!! That is excellent work Lone.

Well done!

Air Master

That looks great Lone. So what is it you do for a living? I almost got rained out, but I had some drywall to hang inside… oh well, I need the hours anyway [:D]

i work in optical communications and have been there long enough to deligate rain days

airmaster,in your sig it says your doing the F-18 RM,is that kit#85-5850?

if so,i’m doing it as well and it seems like a 40.00 hase or Tamiya instead of the usuall RM,got it at wally world for 10.00 and was shocked at the fit and detail

I am glad I can’t call it a rain out at work, althought there are times when we should work we don’t, and when we shouldn’t be, we are? I’m glad I can just put in my 8 and go home!

BTW, what kit is that?

Lone,

The kit I am doing is R-M #85-4821 F-18C 1/48, yours must be re-issued Blue Angels kit. I built that kit as well and I agree the fit is crap… make sure you have plenty of putty cause your going to need alot of it on the forward section of fusalage, sand down the nose cause it was molded fatter it’s supposed to be. When you glue the fusalage halves together USE CA cause model glue will not hold it together on the lower wing sections and the seams will come apart when sanding. Fill your gaps with CA before you putty and sand. If you scribe I suggest that you do that first before you start assembeling it.

I built the R-M Blue Angels F-18 kit as an F/A-18C Marines bug with decals from MAW-Decal for VMFA-251 Thunderbolts and after two months working on it, it came out really good. I posted pics of it here on the forum if you care to search for them.

Air Master

Very nicely done Lone. The painting of the flag is excellent.

Regards, Rick

i was saying that this kit# was an excellent kit, great detail and great fit, almost like they borrowed the molds,BTW VMFA-251 is one of our local squadrons,i’ve built several for the pilots here

and thanks for the warnings,i have the Blue Angel kit in the stash

the F-117A is the Testors 1/32 (required kit for the Cutting Edge set)

Lone,

I think you have the F-18E kit. I misunderstood you and I have heard the R-M F-18E is just as good as the Hasagawa kits. The older R-M kits always had poor fits. I always had fit problems with older R-M kits, but then again I like a challenge and for price older R-M kits of good deal but require alot of work. Most of my kits are R-M cept for my 1/32 F-15E. I got the R-M 1/48 F-117 in my stash but I’m going to wait til I have moved to Kentucky to build it.

Air Master

i have the 1/48 F-117 in the stash also, does anyone know of any other special scemes that were applied to this bird?..the black or grey camo versions just look drab

Very nice work!!!
