F-106

Does anyone put out a kit of the F-106 in bigger scale than 1/72? My boss worked on the darned things when was in the USAF, and all I hear is how great they were. He has found the Hasegawa(?) 1/72 model, but he really wants something around 1/48. If I could find one for him maybe i can score a few points towards my next raise. All help is muchly appreciated. Always remember, your weapon was made by the lowest bidder

Retread,

Monogram made a Dart in 1/48. It’s not the easiest kit to find, though. There’s one on evilBay right now, but it’s up around $20…

Hey Retread;
Blackwolf got it again on the head, but you may want to look around in the local hobby shops too, I’ve got a whole bunch of old Esci kits of planes no one wants to build in the US for dirt cheap, also I built 2 Darts from the same place, what happened is that the shop bought a collection from a estate sale and was selling it off and I got great deals, you may want to see if your local shop does the same too, also I heard rumors that R/M is thinking on reissuing the kit in the near future,

Wasn’t it released as a “Pro-Modeler” kit, too? Or am I thinking F-102 Delta Dagger?

That’s the F-102, Hulk. And I think the original Monogram Daggers are highly collectible now because when they released the ProMod kit, they changed the wing to the case x wing, and I don’t believe that they simply made extra tooling for these parts. If I’m not mistaken, the original tooling was altered and all subsequent releases of the kit have the case x wing. At least I think this is is the way it went. Could be wrong…

You are right about the F-102 wing B-wolf. The first issue was the case XX wing. I converted it into a case X for the model I built. I still have one of the old kits with the case XX wing.

After it was re-released, it had the case X wing. If any one has one of the older kits, hold on to it.

I’m taking a wild guess here… These X wings have nothing to do with Star Wars, right?

Hey Berny & Black wolf;
Have you seen the prices on Evilbay for the older F-102 & 106’s, my god the people who are auctioning them off think they got a pot of gold to sell, I’ve even seen an EA-6B for starting bids at $45.00 where I could get the same kit at Great models for about $28.00 NEW!!, yes I admit I’ve gone there and got a bunch of kits but I check the going prices and bid about $5.00 under the real cost and if I’m out bidded no big loss it’ll come around again some time, but you are right about the Case X & XX wing on the re-issued Daggar, but I don’t know about the molds either on that issue, all I want to see is the Dart re-issued so I could build a “B” version,

You are correct. Case X or Case Ten wings had the tips pointing up. The Case XX or Case Twenty wing tips had a leading edge curve and the tips pointed down. Begining with F-102A, 56-1317 through end of production, all had the Case XX wing. All aircraft prior had the Case X wing.

Ahhhhh… Thats better. Thanks for clearing that one up Berny!
