Here is the old Revell F-106A Delta Dart I have just finished for the INTERCEPTOR Group Build.
Its a nicely detailed kit, though the fit left a lot to be desired.
Overall I had a blast and really devolped an affection for this ‘Ultimate Interceptor’ Its quite different from most of the WWII stuff and Modern ‘Boring Grey Jets’ that most of us usually build.
The only thing missing is the drop tanks which are still being sanded and puttied for later installation.
Enjoy!!!
The Internal Weapons bay with Falcon missles and the Deadly Nuclear GENIE…
I rescribed a few lines on the upper fuselage mostly as an experiment…only 80% pleased with the result.
Love the colorful tails
My ‘Six’ in its final display spot along with some of the rest of my dust collectors…It really stands out.
That looks great! Very nice job! I too have that kit in my stash and will build it some day. How much weight did you put in the nose to keep it wheels down?
I agree with the fit issue completely - I used quite a bit of different fillers on mine last year [:(!] Your panel lines are great, just the right amount of contrast. Did you pre or post shade them? Your “Six” is really a work of art, you should be justfiably proud of that bird! [bow]
I originally picked up the kit at Wally-World on a mere whim…I was surprised how much I come to like the design.
Regardign nose weights…NONE. The plane is very nose heavy on its own which is a rarity.
I did not preshade the panel lines as thats a technique I have not tried out yet…maybe next kit. I just used the FUTURE-wash-Wipe Clean method.
One hint for anybody building this later…dont install the weapons bay until all sanding is done…too many dangly bits to snap off.
Also be careful in decal placement on the forward fuselage. I had to fudge a bit on the yellow stripe so it wouldnt cover up the stars that I accidentally placed too far back…
WOW great job budd. Nicely done on the Delta. I wouldnt mind building one of 'em. But I’ll stick with WWII for right now. I havent done many Jets. Question!! is it easier to weather and Model Jet A/C then it is WWII A/C I woud think it would!
LANDING GEAR—I used my typical technique for gear in that I prime th whole thing with flat black, and then come back afterwards and drybrush it with aluminum and/or flat white. This has the effect (to me anyways) of producing shadows and highlights over all the little nooks and crannies of the gear strut. I dunno if its accurate, but I like the effect.
WEATHERING A JET–Simple answer would be, it depends on the jet. For the F-106 for example, pretty much all the pictures I found showed pristine gleaming jets almost devoid of oil stains or any smudges. As a result I did very little weathering on the ‘Six’.
On the other had the F-18 I did a few monnths back I liberally dusted with pastels and wash’s. Navy jets in general tend to be rather dingy and thus need more weathering.
Same as WWII stuff…just know your subject, and check the photographs. [:D]
As far as if the actual construction is different…(shrugs) I dunno…I build both props and jets, and I like em both. Jets are bigger I guess.
